What does "Burning Years" want to express?

It almost completely abandons the conservative, trite, mediocre and kitsch Hollywood typology model, and observes the contemporary history of the United States in the last 1 century through the eyes of an immigrant family and an almost eliminated Indian "sage".

It mainly tells the story that American Colonel William hates war and lives in seclusion with three sons, and the heroine Susanna is the fiancee of the youngest brother Sam. The three brothers ignored their father's warning and took part in the war. Finally, Sam died, and his second brother Tristan transported Sam's heart back to his hometown for burial.

Introduction:

William (Anthony Hopkins), a cavalry colonel, is tired of war. He took his family to the western wilderness and planted pasture in a remote mountainous area. The colonel's wife abandoned her husband and children and returned to the east because she couldn't stand the harsh environment. Colonel William shouldered the burden of raising three sons alone.

The three brothers grew up in a difficult environment. They are like brothers, but they have different personalities. Eldest brother Alfred (aidan quinn) is honest and conscientious; Samuel (henry thomas), the third brother, is an idealist and deeply loved by his father.

Tristan (Brad Pitt), the second child, is a wild and unruly person. He is free and unrestrained, often associates with Indians and learns a lot from them. Father and son live a cold life in a pure male world.

However, after Samuel graduated from university, he brought his fiancee Susanna (Julia Ormond) home. The quiet life was broken. Alfred had a crush on Susanna, but Tristan's temperament touched Susanna's heart. Four young people painfully suppressed their feelings.
