Jeremy Lin’s parents are Chinese.

Jeremy Lin’s father, Lin Jiming, immigrated to the United States in 1977. He met Wu Xinxin (Jeremy Lin's mother), who is also from Taiwan, at Old Dominion University in Virginia. Afterwards, the two went to Purdue University in Indiana to study together for a Ph.D.

Jeremy Lin’s grandfather, Lin Xinken, was a native of Beidou Town, Changhua County, Taiwan. The ancestors of the Lin family immigrated to Taiwan from Zhangpu County, Fujian Province, China in 1707. Lin Xinken is the seventh generation of the family. Lin Xinken died in his hometown in central Taiwan when Lin Jiming was about 5 years old, leaving behind a wife and four children.

Jeremy Lin’s grandmother, Lin Zhu Amian, was born in Taipei in 1929. For the education of her children, she decided to move her children to Taipei and support the family by working as a tailor. The eldest son, Lin Jizong (Jeremy Lin’s uncle), came to Zhenglong after graduating from high school. Working in the paper industry to help support the family, two of Lin Xinken's family graduated from National Taiwan University, and one graduated from National Taiwan Normal University.

From 2006 to 2010, Jeremy Lin played for the Harvard University basketball team. In 2010, Jeremy Lin participated in the 2010 NBA draft and was ultimately undrafted. After the 2010-11 NBA Summer League, Jeremy Lin signed with the Golden State Warriors, becoming the first Harvard student to enter the NBA since 1953 and the first Chinese-American player to enter the NBA.

After joining the NBA, Jeremy Lin has played for the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks and Toronto. Raptors, won the NBA championship with the Raptors in the 2018-19 season
