Administrative divisions of Wuxuan County

In the eighth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1730), Wuxuan County was divided into six li households, namely: Xiangli, Dongxiangli, Wulaili, Guhaoli, Xixiangli, and Beixiangli.

In the first year of Xuantong of the Qing Dynasty (1909), the original Liuli was divided into 9 districts: Chengxiang District, Sanli District, Dongxiang District, Tongling District, Tongwan District, Luxin District, Ertang District, Huang Mao District and Miaowang District.

In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Huangmao District was divided into Jinji District.

On July 1, the 22nd year of the Republic of China, the 10 districts in the county were merged into two districts, Beihe District and Nanhe District, and the districts were organized into townships and towns. In 2023, the townships were as follows: Chengxiang Township, Sanli Township, Dongxiang Township, Tongling Township, Tongwan Township, Luxin Township, Mabu Township, Ertang Township, Huangmao Township, Jinji Township, Dalin Township, and Miaohuang Township.

In March 1950, the zoning was adjusted and the county was divided into four districts: Dongxiang, Tongling, Ertang, Huangmao and Chengxiang Town.

Dongxiang District (later renamed Sanli District) governs Dongxiang Township and Sanli Township.

Tongling District (later renamed Nanhe District) governs Tongling Township, Tongwan Township, Luxin Township and Mabu Township.

Ertang District governs Ertang Township, Dalin Township and Miaohuang Township.

Huangmao District governs Huangmao Township and Jinji Township.

In September 1952, Wuxuan County and Xiang County were merged into Shilong County. The current Wuxuan County area is divided into 7 districts: Huangmao District, Ertang District, Sanli District, Dongxiang District, Tongling District, Tongwan District and Luxin District have small townships under them.

In January 1958, the entire Shilong County was withdrawn to establish townships. The current Wuxuan County area consists of 15 townships: Jinji Township, Huangmao Township, Ertang Township, Dalin Township, Wuxuan Township, and Sanli Township. In August 1958, all the villages and towns in Shilong County were changed into people's communes. The current Wuxuan County area has 15 people's communes. In September, the entire county was merged into 9 people's communes, which belong to the current Wuxuan County. There are 2 people's communes in the area: Hongqi People's Commune (Beihe area) and Ganjin People's Commune (Nanhe area)

On March 29, 1962, the organizational system of Wuxuan County was restored. In September, the county was divided into 8 districts: Wuxuan District, Sanli District, Dongxiang District, Tongling District, Tongwan District, Luxin District, Er Tang District and Huangmao District.

In January 1969, 8 districts were changed into 8 people's communes.

In April 1980, Wuxuan People's Commune was changed to Wuxuan Town.

In October 1984, the people's communes were abolished and township and town people's governments were established. The county was divided into 1 town and 10 townships: Wuxuan Town, Sanli Township, Dongxiang Township, Hema Township, Tongling Township, and Tongwan Township, Luxin Township, Siling Township, Ertang Township, Huangmao Township, and Jinji Township.

In September 1987, some villages in Wuxuan Town, Luxin Township, and Tongling Township were divided into Mabu Township, and Tongling Township was divided into Xinlong Township.

In October 1995, Tongling Township and Ertang Township were withdrawn from townships and transformed into towns.

In September 1996, Tongwan Township, Sanli Township, and Dongxiang Township were removed from townships and transformed into towns.

In October 1997, Huangmao Township was reorganized from a township into a town.

In February 2003, Xinlong Township was merged into Tongling Town.

In June 2005, Mabu Township was merged into Wuxuan Town.

In July 2005, Hema Township was merged into Dongxiang Town

On May 8, 2014, Luxin Township removed the township and established a town, and changed it to Luxin Town.
