In September 1949, Yongdeng County was liberated and returned to the ancient mountainous area. In January 1950, Yongdeng adjusted the division and established Wudaoxian Township as the headquarters of the fifth district. In 1958, it was placed under Gaolan County. In the same year, Qinchuan People's Commune was established. In 1959, Yongdeng District of Lanzhou City was established, and Qinchuan Commune was placed under the jurisdiction of Yongdeng District. In 1983, the entire county was transformed into a township and Qinchuan Township was established. In 1999, it was approved as Qinchuan Town by the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, and was listed by the Provincial Restructuring Committee in the same year. It is a pilot town for comprehensive reform of small towns. In July 2000, the township was withdrawn and transformed into a town.
