What was Tanggu like in the past?

Tanggu has a history of more than 8 years. In the eighth year of Song Qingli (AD 148), the Yellow River diverted northward for three times and entered the sea near Tianjin. The Yellow River's "one Shi Shui and six buckets of mud" has amazing land-making ability, and "muddy water passes through it, which is flat land". By the second year of Jianyan in the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 1128), Tanggu land was gradually formed. The shell dike, which reflects the eastward movement of the coastline several times, is the evidence of land formation in Tanggu area. After Tanggu became a land, people gradually came here to cook salt and fish, and gradually formed a village. The Yuan Dynasty opened water transportation at sea, and the Yuan government stationed troops to prevent water transportation, and the population became increasingly numerous. After Zhu Di, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, made the capital of Dadu (now Beijing), the immigration here reached a climax, and Dagu and Beitang became larger villages and towns. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Dagu set up a yamen of Xietai and Tanggu set up a yamen of Tongzhi. Before liberation, Tanggu was never built independently, and the banks of Haihe River belonged to different administrative regions. On the eve of liberation, the south bank of Haihe River belonged to Tianjin County, and the north bank of Haihe River belonged to Ninghe County. After liberation, the two sides merged to form Tanggu District of Tianjin (Tanggu and Dagu), which was renamed Tanggu District in February 1952.
