When did immigration from China begin?

1924 immigration treaty (which restricts China people from different classes from immigrating to the United States) was rejected by all walks of life in the United States, and Chinese in China suffered unprecedented humiliation. But even so, China people did not choose to give up returning to China. Instead, they formed a community exclusively for China people in the United States to stand on their own feet-this is the origin of Chinatown.

A gold mine was discovered in San Francisco, California. Guangdong businessmen just saw the business opportunities at this time, drifting from the Pearl River Delta for several months to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco (including some businessmen and most poor laborers). This is why Cantonese is spoken in beautiful Chinatown. According to the statistics of the United States Population Commission, the first batch of about 325 people from China arrived in the United States around 1848. Subsequently, due to the Boelingen Treaty signed between the Qing Dynasty and the United States in 1868, immigration measures were liberalized, and about 300,000 people arrived in the United States in 1890 * *. Their purpose of going to the United States was simple at first, that is, to make money in the United States, and then to return to China to bring the money back to support their families.

1863, the gold rush came to an end temporarily, and most China people sought jobs in order to live better in the United States than in China. However, due to their 100 people, 99 of them are men, who can't speak foreign languages and have no good education, so they can only do coolies and manual labor. Many people choose to build railways, because we in China are very hardworking. It took only five years (1863- 1868) to build the two most famous railways in the United States-the Central Pacific Railway and the Federal Pacific Railway, from Nebraska in the middle of the United States to California on the west coast of the United States (which laid a huge foundation for the development of the industrial period in the United States).

At the same time, during this period, American agriculture was also greatly influenced by Chinese Americans. Because China is a country with a long history of agriculture, many people in China naturally become farmers of big estates. They taught Americans how to sow and harvest cash crops such as wheat and rice more effectively, which played a key role in the southern United States during the American Civil War. However, according to the laws of California at that time, in order to keep their own interests unaffected, whites stipulated that China people could not own any fields or farms, which made many China people angry and bored with Americans.

Later, after the American Civil War, around 1870, some China people fled to live in the United States to escape the war in China, while some people continued to choose to dig gold in the United States, which was the last group of China people looking for gold. Because of the ambiguity between China people and whites on the ownership of gold mines, there have been many collective strikes and trade unions, and whites began to exploit China people. In China, workers can only be taxed at $3 on their monthly income of $6. Some people who refused to pay taxes were shot because they didn't know English, and the few political rights that China people can enjoy only in the United States were also insulted. Since then, Chinese people in the United States have embarked on a series of humiliating history, but at the same time, our China people's fearless, hardworking and persistent character has been remembered and passed down from generation to generation.
