Which countries are permanent members of the United Nations?

Five permanent members: People's Republic of China (PRC) (China), Russian Federation (Russia), United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Fifth Republic of France (France) and United States of America (United States).

Permanent members use the veto:

The Charter of the United Nations does not explicitly stipulate the "veto power" in the relevant chapters of the Security Council, but stipulates that "any non-procedural resolution must be approved by at least 9 votes of the Security Council 15 members and can only be passed without the negative votes of 5 permanent members", that is, the negative votes of permanent members are usually called "exercising the veto power".

Since the founding of the United Nations, most of the veto power in history has been exercised by the Soviet Union. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the United States was the country that exercised the veto most frequently. As of 20 12, the five permanent members * * * exercised their veto power 270 times:

The United States used its veto power 78 times, including 36 times, to stop criticism of Israel. The United States exercised its veto power on March 26th, 2004. The United States did not include Hamas's suicide bombing of Israeli civilians in the resolution, and vetoed the Arab resolution condemning Israel's assassination of Yassin, the spiritual leader of Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Britain used it 32 times, 22 of which joined hands with the United States. Britain voted against it only seven times, all of which were related to the situation in southern rhodesia.

France used 18 times, of which 13 times was jointly used with the United States and Britain. France used its veto power only twice, one was 1976 on the dispute between France and Comoros, and the other was 1947 on Indonesia. 1946, France also vetoed a resolution on the civil war between Spain and the Soviet Union.

The former Soviet Union/Russia used the veto 1 19 times, which was the largest power actually used. During the Cold War, the former Soviet Union used the veto power many times, so that gromyko, who served as the foreign minister of the Soviet Union from 1957 to 1985, got the reputation of Mr. Shaking his head.

During the period from 1946 to 197 1, the authorities of Taiwan Province Province once exercised their veto power in the Security Council and rejected Mongolia's application to join the United Nations. After People's Republic of China (PRC) resumed its seat in the United Nations in 197 1, it used its veto power nine times as a permanent member of the Security Council. China is the country that uses the veto least at present.
