Was the earliest human being a Wushan man or a Yuanmou man?
On November 12th, at Beijing Xiyuan Hotel, at the seminar on "The Mystery of the Ancestor of Longgupo in Wushan" sponsored by Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, Municipal Government and Institute of Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Huang Wanbo, a researcher at vertebrate paleontology Institute of Paleoanthropology of Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of Wushan Institute of Paleoanthropology of Longgupo, said that a tooth fossil discovered by China scientists in 1985 in Longgupo, Wushan County, Chongqing was dated 2.4 million years ago, which was the earliest found in China. Researcher Huang Wanbo believes that the results of this study have rewritten the previous understanding of the history of human evolution in the scientific community. Since then, major domestic media have published this important news.
In p>1995, since researcher Huang Wanbo and others discovered a left lower gum and an inner lateral incisor in Longgupo, Chongqing, the debate about these two bones has never stopped in academic circles at home and abroad. Is it a human or an ape? Is the age judgment correct? Why are there so few stone tools found in Longgupo site? These three problems have been puzzling many scientists, including Huang Wanbo.
more than p>2 years have passed, and after three large-scale archaeological excavations, have all these questions been answered?
"I still have confidence in the study of Wushan people. I believe that with the discovery of more human bones, the scientific circles at home and abroad will admit it sooner or later." Researcher Huang Wanbo, who is over 7 years old, said firmly.
"My main task now is to dig up more human bones!" In the face of academic doubts, researcher Huang Wanbo is prepared to prove his point with enough human bones. "Human bones are the best evidence!"
The remains of the "ancients" were discovered at Longgupo Ancient Human Site in Wushan
In p>1984, Huang Wanbo, a researcher at the Institute of vertebrate paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, led an expedition to the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River to look for ancient human sites. At that time, the relevant person in charge of Wushan Cultural Bureau led them to a cave called Longdong. In Longdong, they waved hoes and struggled for months, only to find fossils of late paleontology.
Huang wanbo and other experts believe that the geographical environment of Wushan is very suitable for the survival of ancient humans. They began to visit fellow villagers and finally found an old Chinese doctor. The old Chinese doctor said that there was a keel in a cave on the keel slope of Wushan. Huang Wanbo and others rushed to Longgupo. Because the cave collapsed, they decided to dig two ditches in the cave.
that year, they dug up a piece of the left lower gum, an inner side incisor and two stone tools of the ancients in the cave. "But the skulls of the ancients have never been discovered." Huang Wanbo said with regret.
Later, the specimen of "Wushan Man" discovered in Wushan was determined by experts from Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and by electron spin * * * vibration method of Professor Chen Tiemei from Peking University Archaeology Department, and it was found that it had a history of 2.4 million years. The discovered stone tools have been appraised by famous paleoanthropologist Academician Jia Lanpo and other authoritative scholars. The two stone tools discovered by "Wushan Man" have traces of manual strike, and they are tools used by ancient humans.
Previously, most western scholars believed that modern East Asians came from Africa 2, years ago, and the discovery of ancient people in Wushan, Longgupo, pushed the time when East Asians came from Africa forward by 2 million years, which was a great impact on the history of human evolution. Huang Wanbo believes that after human beings originated in Africa, they came to the Three Gorges area 2 million years ago, and then gradually evolved into modern people. "In other words, human beings originated in Africa, but modern people in China and East Asia evolved in the Great Three Gorges area." Huang Wanbo said.
