Is there water on Mars? Is there life?
Is there water on Mars? Is there life?
Give a clear answer first: there is water on Mars. But the environment of Mars is impossible for human beings to live directly.
The special environment of Mars
Mars is one of the eight planets in the solar system and the fourth planet in the solar system from the inside out. It is a terrestrial planet, with a diameter of about 53% of the Earth's and a mass of 1 1% of the Earth's. On September 28th, 20 15, NASA announced that there was a small amount of water on Mars. This means that Mars may be transformed into the earth's environment.
It can also be said that if we have to find an immigrant planet in the solar system, then Mars is the most promising one.
Why does Mars have the potential to be transformed?
So why does Mars have such great transformation potential? Can be compared with the nearest moon:
I. atmosphere. Mars has an atmosphere, although its density is less than that of Earth's 1%. Moreover, the rotation period of Mars is not much different from that of the Earth. But the moon has no atmosphere, and its day is 672 hours.
Second, resources. There are inexhaustible carbon dioxide and liquid hydrogen on Mars, so the reaction of carbon dioxide and hydrogen can produce methane and water. The byproducts of methane combustion are oxygen and water, which is very important for the survival of life. The moon does not have such conditions.
Third, solar energy can be used for power supply, but solar panels need to be manufactured first. There is silicon dioxide on Mars, which can react with carbon powder. Silicon can be obtained after processing, which can be further processed to make solar energy and computer chips.
Fourth, the Martian soil itself is a good building material, and there are abundant copper and iron ores on Mars, and the contents of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, manganese, zinc, copper and other elements in the Martian soil are higher than those of the earth, often more than one or two times. So the growth of plants is also guaranteed.
Is there life on Mars?
Scientists speculate that there was life on Mars in ancient times, and now the possibility of life is not ruled out. Curiosity rover found organic molecules in a sedimentary rock 3 billion years ago near the surface of Mars, which indicates that there may be ancient life on Mars. Curiosity also found that the methane content in the atmosphere of Mars fluctuates seasonally, or it is related to modern life on Mars.
Although it is not enough to show that there must be life on Mars, these findings are undoubtedly a good sign for future exploration missions on the surface and underground of Mars.
