Why is Duan so vulnerable when Mongolia destroys Dali?

Until the demise of the Yuan Dynasty, he remained loyal to the former dynasty and resisted the reunification of the Ming Dynasty. In the fifteenth year of Hongwu (1382), the Ming army entered Yunnan, and the resistance of the last general manager of Duan reached the end.

The battle of Mongolia's annihilation of Dali was from 1252 (the second year of Emperor Xianzong of Mongolia, the first year of Tianding of Dali) to 1254 (the fourth year of Emperor Xianzong of Mongolia, the third year of Tianding of Dali). When Mongolia attacked the Song Dynasty, Kublai Khan, the king of Mongolia, led an army to attack and destroy Dali.

This should start with the contradiction between the upper-level countries in Dali, mainly manifested in the power struggle between Yang, Gao and Duan's royal family. According to records, in the eighth year of Song Renzong Jiayou (AD 1063), Yang Yunxian rioted, and Duan Silian ordered Yue Hou Gao Zhisheng to make peace; In the third year of Yuanfeng (AD 1080), the powerful minister Yang rebelled and killed Duan Yilian (also known as Lian Yi). Only four months later, he was killed by Gao Shengtai, the son of Gao Zhisheng, and became Duan Shouhui, the nephew of Lian Yi. Since then, Gao's forces have gained the upper hand in China. Yang Shen once said: "The highest level is the rule of the monarch and the minister."

In the first year of Song Zhezong Shaosheng (A.D. 1094), Gao Shengtai abandoned Duan as king and changed his country name to "Greater China" under the guise of "inviting ministers". Two years later, under the pressure of various forces, he was also a Duan, and Duan's younger brother Duan was crowned king, which was called "the country after Li" in history. This power struggle led to internal turmoil in Dali, and people's sense of belonging to Dali began to decline.

Another important reason is that Mongolia attacked the Southern Song Dynasty for a long time, which caused panic in Dali and began to move south one after another. They migrated from Yunnan to Southeast Asia along various rivers. For example, they arrived in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. This has led to the emptiness and shortage of manpower in Dali, and many people in China are very worried.

So Mongolia's destruction of Dali can be so smooth. In addition to the fact that some descendants of Duan's family chose to kneel and surrender, the more important reason is that Dali has been unstable, civil strife has just broken out, a large number of people in China have moved south, and the country is empty. They can't stay if they want to.
