Publisher: Song Qiaoge is a local. His job is the border police of the customs, guarding the gate of Macao. 1999 As the date of Macao's return approaches. The "locals" in Macao are faced with an important choice, whether to stay in Macao or go to Portugal. In the film, Ogo and his original friends are worried about this problem. However, for Ogo, it's not just these that bother him. Ogo has a mixed-race face, but he was born in a typical China family. In this special period before Macao's return to China, Og was more and more eager to know his real life experience. Finally, Og learned the news of his biological father from his adoptive father. Ogo left Macao and set foot on Portugal, a strange land for him, and started his own "root-seeking" road. However, Ogo's biological mother died shortly after Ogo left Macao. At the end of the film, Og returned to Macau, walked to his mother's grave and stared at her tombstone for a long time. At this moment, Ogo seems to feel that he has really found his roots and his own land.
Li Lian is another protagonist of this film. She was born in Macao. When she was a child, because her parents divorced, she moved to Chinese mainland with her business father, and fell in love with her senior Marseille during her college years. Marseille, a Macau native, studied in China. After graduating from Marseille, they returned to work in Macau, where they met. However, Marseille gradually cut off contact with Li Lian. 1999 On the eve of Macao's return to China, the Macao government hired a large number of mainland Putonghua teachers to teach Putonghua to Macao civil servants, which enabled Macao to return to China smoothly. Li Lian took this opportunity to work as a Mandarin teacher in Macau and found his former lover Marseille. However, she didn't know what she was looking for.
Lulu, another important character in the film, is a waitress in a bar. Lulu's hometown is a small mountain village in China. She was not satisfied with the unchanging life in her hometown year after year, but came to work in Macao, eager to find her ideals and hopes in Macao. Lulu met Ogo and Ogo's colleague Peter in the bar. Peter fell in love with Lulu at first sight and hoped Lulu would follow him to leave Macao and live in Portugal. However, just as Lulu was about to accept Peter's feelings, Peter was killed for owing usury in a casino in Macau. Lulu silently endured all the stories that happened to her, and continued her life, waiting for her ideals and hopes.
On February 20th, the ceremony of Macao's return to the motherland was being broadcast live on TV. The protagonists in the story are all sitting in front of the TV at the moment, watching this historical moment ... Ogo: born locally, male, 30 years old, border policeman of Macao Customs. Growing up in an ordinary China family in Macau. Og has never met his Portuguese biological father. On the eve of Macao's return, Og faced a major choice. Ogo wants to find his biological father and his roots.
Li Nian: Female, 25 years old, quiet and beautiful, born in Macau. Later, her parents divorced and went to live in Chinese mainland with her business father. I fell in love with my senior Marseille when I was studying in the mainland. Marseille is a native Macao youth studying in China. After graduation, Marseille returned to work in Macau and gradually lost contact with Li Lian. 1999 On the eve of Macao's return to China, Li Lian came to Macao to teach Macao civil servants to learn Mandarin, but in Li Lian's mind, finding Marseille was the most important purpose of her visit.
Peter: Born in Macau, male, 30 years old, a colleague of Ogo, a border policeman of Macau Customs, a typical Macau native, with a Portuguese father and a China mother. On the eve of Macao's return, Peter decided to leave Macao for Portugal. Peter fell in love with Lulu at first sight and hoped to take Lulu to Portugal with him. However, just when Lulu decided to agree to Peter's request, Peter was killed for owing usury in the casino.
Lulu: Female, 25 years old, mature and full of feminine charm, from a small mountain village in Chinese mainland, came to Macau to find her ideal and new life, worked in a bar in Macau and waited for her own opportunity.
Ogo's mother: China, 58, a traditional China woman. I used to be a dancer when I was young. I had a brief relationship with a Portuguese singer who performed in Macau, and I gave birth to Ogo. After a brief relationship with Ogo's mother, Ogo's biological father returned to Portugal and never heard from again. Ogo's mother finally married a kind China man, who brought up Ogo and later gave birth to a girl with her husband China.
Ogo's adoptive father: a 60-year-old man from China, a traditional and kind China, deeply loves his wife and brought up Ogo without any regrets. And finally told Ogo Ogo the news of his biological father.
Ogo's half sister Jane: China, 24 years old, lovely and pure. I deeply love my parents and brother, and I hope my family can live in harmony. I am dissatisfied with Ogo's behavior of repeatedly exploring his biological father regardless of his family's feelings, but I also sympathize with my brother's experience. This is a film about "Macao"; This is a film about "Native"; This is a movie about seeking.
Macao, a tiny place, has been playing the role of a meeting point in the tortuous dialogue between eastern and western cultures for more than four centuries. Here, the eastern and western cultures approach, meet, merge and coexist. And finally formed a new special cultural form and phenomenon. This is the unique charm of Macao society.
Oriental Portuguese, also known as "native". It is the product of centuries-long dialogue between two cultures. They are one of the landmarks of Macao society and the living fossils of Macao history and culture. To understand Macao, we must understand the local people. And my film also needs to start with local students. I'm afraid there is no better choice to make a film about Macao than to tell the story of Macao's indigenous groups. Because the natives are a unique ethnic group in Macao society. But also because they call themselves "sons of Macao".
All native students are faced with an embarrassing problem, which is the root cause. Questioning the root of a group is tantamount to questioning the reason for its existence. I asked the locals, where do you think you are from? The natives' answers are almost identical. We are from Macao! I further asked, Macau is a part of China. Do you consider yourself from China? I got almost the same answer, that is, no! I continued to ask, if I had to choose between China and Portugal, where do you think you are from? The answer is surprisingly consistent-Portuguese! Obviously, Macao is the most acceptable choice for local students.
In fact, when I sit and chat with the natives face to face, I know that in my heart, I will instinctively not regard these natives with foreign faces as China people. Just as the Portuguese can give them the greatest recognition, they are just "Oriental Portuguese", and the name "Oriental Portuguese" itself has distinguished them from real Portuguese.
The "roots" of indigenous people are indeed a problem. Therefore, when the natives firmly grasp Macao and declare to the world that they are real Macao people and "sons of Macao", we can see some tragic emotions from it. Macao, a tiny place, may be their last refuge and their only paradise.
1999 The eve of Macau's return to China is the background of this film. It is meaningful to choose the background of this era. Because in this important historical period, all native students are faced with major choices. Stay or leave? Stay, they worry that Macao will no longer be their paradise after the reunification, but will become their purgatory. Leave, there will be no second paradise for them in this world.
So much background. Finally, I want to say that this is a movie about seeking.
Everyone in the story is looking for it. Ogo is looking for his biological father, his identity and his roots. Peter is also looking for his roots. Li Lian is looking for his feelings. Lulu is looking for her hopes and ideals. And Marseille, Og's biological mother, Og's adoptive father, Og's half-sister. Everyone is looking for what they need. "Search" runs through the whole movie. And this kind of "seeking" emotion is also the emotion of this movie.
Everyone in the story is confused, because life has not given them a clear way out, and this may be the real life. In real life, everyone is actually looking for something, no matter what can be found in the end, but the search must run through life. Perhaps this is the meaning of life ... the movie Ogo and "Where will Macao people go on the eve of Macao's return to the motherland?" The theme of the times, for the first time, reproduces the living conditions of Macao's "aborigines" with a strong flavor of life. Many languages appear alternately in the film, and the images of the East and the West are well integrated into the narrative of the story, which is both powerful and unpretentious. The film also shows the world cultural heritage buildings in Macao and the colorful seaside scenery in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, which is of great appreciation value.
The film Ogo is a key film cultural project created by local Macao artists for the first time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. It has been encouraged and supported by the leaders of the Macao Special Administrative Region and all walks of life from the beginning of preparation, filming to production and distribution. It is a film that can be watched to celebrate the return of Macao. Ogo is also the first live-action film shot by filmmakers from Chinese mainland, Macau and Portugal.
