Why does America celebrate Thanksgiving? What is the origin?

Just like the Spring Festival in China, Thanksgiving in the United States is also a form of commemoration, which was gradually promoted by the Puritans in Britain and officially designated as an American holiday by President Lincoln.

It is said that a group of Puritans in Britain were dissatisfied with the religious reform of the Church of England (in fact, there were some riots, and the Church of England put political pressure on the Puritans to get rid of them), so they took a boat to the other side of the Atlantic, that is, the United States. When they arrived, they were caught in the cold winter in America, and the group had nothing to eat. When they were starving to death, the refugees living in this barren land brought them a lot of fresh vegetables and food and saved their lives.

When the weather turned warmer, these refugees taught them to farm and fish, so the Puritans lived freely here, which they thought was a favor from God. Therefore, in the harvest season, they want to repay the kindness of the refugees with their own food. On a Thursday in 162 1 year1month, the Puritans invited these refugees to get together with them and enjoy a bumper harvest of food. People light bonfires, eat turkeys, dance around them and sing songs. This is the earliest Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving was celebrated for more than one day. In the next two or three days, people sang and danced, rode horses and shot arrows, and held a series of activities, which not only expressed their gratitude, but also took a day off for a year's hard work.

Festivals have been handed down slowly. Up to now, Americans still mourn by lighting bonfires, eating turkeys, family reunions and praying for gratitude. Later, after the independence of the United States, Lincoln designated Thanksgiving as a national holiday, on which everyone would have a holiday and get together. In fact, just like festivals in China, people usually have heavy work pressure, so we certainly need a special day to celebrate and relax!
