Zhongjiawa is one of the earliest villages in Qingdao, which was built in the Ming Dynasty. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, a natural village composed of surnames such as Zhong, Ge, Zhang and Hu was formed. According to legend, Zhongjiawa's surname was also an immigrant from Yunnan at the earliest. Because Zhongjia came first and had a prosperous population, it was located in a depression, so it was named Zhongjiawa. The place where Zhongjiawa began to build a village is called Nanzhongjiawa, or "Nanzhong" for short.
