Sansui County is located in the east of Guizhou Province, northeast of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, and adjacent to Xinhuang County of Hunan Province. The county covers an area of 1035 square kilometers, governs 7 towns and 2 townships, 159 administrative villages and 5 residential communities with a total population of 220,000.

Among them, Miao and Dong people account for 75%, and agricultural population accounts for 89%. Sansui County has successively won the honors of "National Science and Technology Progress County", "National Science Popularization Demonstration County", "National Family Planning Excellent Service Advanced County", Guizhou Province Affordable Housing Demonstration County, Guizhou Province Rural Labor Force Transfer Employment Demonstration County, and Guizhou Province "Top Ten County with Government Service Environment".

It is located between east longitude10832 ′—10904 ′ and north latitude 26 47 ′— 27 04 ′. Xinhuang dong autonomous county is adjacent to the northeast, Tianzhu and Jianhe counties to the southeast and southwest, and zhenyuan county to the north. As one of the eastern exports of Guizhou Province, it is known as "the fortress in eastern Guizhou" and "the gateway to a thousand miles of Miao territory".

Sansui Duck is one of the four famous ducks in China. In 2007, Sansui bamboo weaving was listed as an intangible cultural heritage in Guizhou Province. In 2008, the Ministry of Culture named Sansui as "the hometown of folk culture and art in China (bamboo weaving)".
