Up to now, new immigrant women who are married to Korea and apply for naturalization have obtained Korean citizenship in an average of 1 ~ 2 years after submitting their naturalization applications. If you have children, you only need 1 year; if you don't have children, you have to wait two years before you can automatically acquire Korean nationality.

From 2005 to 2007, the number of new immigrant women applying for naturalization reached 7826, 1258 1 person and 13908 person respectively. With the revision of the nationality law, they can obtain Korean nationality after submitting the naturalization application 1 ~ 2 years, but it is not so easy to obtain Korean nationality in the future.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the reason for amending the law and introducing written examination and comprehensive social education system is to protect new immigrant women married to South Korea. The head of the Immigration and Foreigners Policy Department of the Ministry of Justice said: "Before the exam, I accepted the naturalization application of new immigrant women who married South Korea. As a result, they were beaten by their husbands because they didn't know Korean, and they endured it silently. The more serious problem was that their children spoke Korean only when they entered school, and they couldn't make friends at school, and the parties suffered greatly. Therefore, the system must be improved. "

The Ministry of Justice also plans to further strengthen the naturalization conditions. The Ministry of Justice plans to completely cancel the naturalization test from 20 10, and then only by receiving more than 200 hours of social comprehensive plan education can you obtain Korean nationality.

Human rights groups and new immigrant women think this is an unrealistic policy. Before obtaining Korean nationality, new immigrant women must renew their alien registration certificate once a year, and only in this way can they legally live in China. The renewal of the registration certificate must be guaranteed by the husband. Cui Yan Rui, the school shepherd of Jiangxi and Yangchuan New Immigrant Women's Home, said: "Some Korean husbands use this guarantee as a weapon, demanding that new immigrant women absolutely obey, or even treat each other as slaves at all."

Quan Meizhu, director of the consulting room of the South Korean Center for New Immigrant Women's Human Rights, said: "If the government implements the revised nationality law, it will be difficult for many new immigrant women to obtain nationality."
