Where is a tiger in Chaozhou, Guangdong?

The tiger is the king of beasts. In the official history of Chaoshan, there are at least 35 records about tigers. The most in-depth study on the historical materials of Chaoshan tiger is Chaoyang Tong, and the Chaoshan Residence written by Gu Rao, Zhang Weiming and Mr. Qin. There were at least 14 records of tiger disasters in Chaoshan area in Qing Dynasty, including the occurrence of tiger disasters in Jieyang, Chaoyang, South Australia and Chaozhou. At most, it was published in Jieyang County Records Xiangyi by Qing Yongzheng, and in the sixteenth year of Shunzhi (1659), "tigers are everywhere in the countryside. People and animals suffer after walking for three to five days. The Weixi in the mountain village is closed, with more than a dozen at a time, with all kinds of white foreheads, white flour and long noodles. " Every time more than ten tigers appear at the same time, which is a veritable tiger group.

Tigers appeared four times during the Republic of China, four times after liberation and six times after being listed as protected animals. Last seen on May 20th 1984. Three tigers were found in Shipai Wuli District, Puning County, of which 1 tiger was captured by farmers.

Why did tigers appear in Ming and Qing Dynasties? This should be related to the population growth and mountain development in Ming and Qing Dynasties.

According to Arturo Vallman's "Corn and Capitalism", it was in the16th century that American crops such as corn were introduced to China, which coincided with the Ming and Qing Dynasties in China. It was also because drought-tolerant crops such as corn and sweet potato spread in China that the mountainous areas of China were developed. In a short period of time, a large number of immigrants entered, which destroyed the original ecological balance.

Since the Qin and Han dynasties, residents in the northern region began to move south, and there was an immigration climax in the Song Dynasty.

According to Du Fu's research on the population development in Chaoshan area, the population of Chaoshan was about 40,000 in the Kaiyuan period of Tang Dynasty (7 13-74 1), and the population density was about 5.5 people per square kilometer. In the first six years of Song Chun (1246), there were at least 600,000 people, and the population density was 50.6 people per square kilometer.

In the 22nd year of Qing Jiaqing (18 17), the population has reached1360,000.
