American national assimilation

According to the June 2005 census, the population of the United States is about 296 million. The United States is a multi-ethnic country with great racial differences. According to the 2000 census, there are 3 1 ethnic groups in China, with a population greater than 1 10,000, and there are many small ethnic groups with small populations.

The main population is the descendants of European immigrants, who settled in the first colonies at that time, and most of them came to the United States after the "Southern Reconstruction Movement". In 2000, the figure was 69. 1%, but the figure has been declining. The main European lineages are Germany (15.2%), Ireland (10.8%), England (8.7%), Italy (5.6%) and Scandinavia (3.7%). Many people also come from Slavic countries, such as Poland and Russia. Other immigrants come from eastern Europe, southern Europe and French-speaking Canada.

Hispanics are the largest minority in the United States, accounting for12.5% of the total population (2000 census), and descendants of Mexican immigrants account for 7.3%, which is expected to continue to grow at a high speed in the next few decades.

Black or African-American accounted for 12.3%(2000 census) and settled in all parts of the country, but the southern black area was the largest.

Asian Americans (excluding Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders) are the third largest minority, accounting for 3.7% in the 2000 census. Most Asian Americans are concentrated in the West Coast and Hawaii. The largest ethnic groups come from the Philippines, China, Indian, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese.

Native Americans such as Indians and Inuit account for 0.9% of the total population (2000 census), and about 35% of them live in Indian reservations.

American culture is the product of the integration of various ethnic groups, including indigenous Indians, mainly white (excluding Latino) culture, and African-American culture, Latino culture and Asian culture also have great influence. Before the 20th century, American culture gradually developed from imitating Europe (especially Britain) to having its own characteristics. After World War II, with the economic, military and political strength of the United States, its culture has had a great impact on the whole world, especially the western world. Today, American music resounds all over the world, while American movies and television are broadcast all over the world.
