The origin of the name Baoguo Temple in Mount Emei

Built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the main hall of the temple originally enshrined representatives of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, so it was called the "Three Churches Sect". Later, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty changed it to Baoguo Temple.

There is a plaque inscribed "Baoguo Temple" written by Emperor Kangxi in the 42nd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign hanging on the mountain gate. Inside the temple, there is a copper Huayan Pagoda built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, with 4,700 small Buddha statues. The Huayan Sutra is engraved around the pagoda. There is a lotus bronze bell outside the temple door, which is the "Shengji Evening Bell" among the "Ten Scenic Spots of Emei".

The bell has more than 60,000 words of the Agama Sutra and other Buddhist verses, inscriptions and commentaries cast on it. Baoguo Temple was rebuilt in the fifth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty.

After entering the mountain gate of Baoguo Temple, there are Maitreya Hall, Main Hall and other main halls up the mountain.
