Foreigners who come to China under any of the following circumstances may be exempted from obtaining a Chinese visa:

(1) Direct transit

Foreigners who directly transit from China on international flights with reserved connecting tickets and stay in transit cities for no more than 24 hours and do not leave the airport can be exempted from visas.

Citizens of the following countries, regardless of passports, can stay in Shanghai for no more than 48 hours (they can leave the airport, but they must enter and leave Shanghai Hongqiao or Pudong Airport): the United States, South Korea, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Greece, etc.

(3) Citizens of Singapore, Brunei and Japan.

Citizens of Singapore, Brunei and Japan who come to Chinese mainland with ordinary passports for tourism, business, visiting relatives and friends or crossing the border for less than 15 days may be exempted from visas when entering China, which is open to foreigners. However, in the following cases, the visa must be completed in advance:

1, holding an ordinary passport to come to China for tourism, business, visiting relatives and friends, and the expected stay is more than 15 days;

2. Go to China for study, work, residence, official visit and interview with an ordinary passport;

3. Holding Japanese diplomatic and official passports.

(4) Holders of valid APEC business travel cards.

The APEC business travel card is equivalent to a three-year multiple visa. Cardholders may enter China for many times with their travel cards and valid passports that match the cards, and each stay shall not exceed 2 months.

(5) Hold valid permanent residence permits for China people and foreigners.

(6) Holding a valid alien residence permit issued by the public security organ of China.

Foreigners studying, working or working in China and foreign resident journalists must apply to the public security organs for foreigners' residence after entering the country. During the validity period of the residence permit, foreigners can stay in China and enter and leave the country for multiple times without having to apply for another visa.

(7) Foreigners who are exempted from visas according to bilateral agreements.
