Liyang City is a county-level city in the southwestern tip of Jiangsu Province, China, and is subordinate to the prefecture-level Changzhou City.

History

Liyang County was established in the 26th year of Qin Shihuang (221 BC). In the first year of Wuhuangwu of the Three Kingdoms (222), the county was abolished and renamed Pingling, which belonged to Yongping County. The original name was restored in the first year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (280). In the 18th year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (598), Liyang was merged into Lishui County. In the third year of Tang Wude's reign (620), Lishui was analyzed and Liyang County was established. In the 14th year of Yuan Dynasty (1277), it was promoted to Lizhou, and later changed to Liyang Prefecture, Liyang Road, and Liyang Prefecture. In the second year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1369), the prefecture was abolished and the county was restored. In 1990, the county was removed and a city was established.

Geography

Liyang is located at the junction of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, also close to Zhejiang Province, and belongs to the Yangtze River Delta region. The city's annual average temperature is 15°C and precipitation is 1,136 mm.

Economy

Agriculture is developed, mainly producing rice, wheat and other grains, and is also rich in tea and chestnuts. The industry is famous for the production of silk. It has been ranked among the top 100 counties in the country for comprehensive strength many times.
