John edwards's position

In the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination campaign, Edwards completed the national political awareness test. Edwards' position, thoughts and experience on national issues constitute his campaign platform, including:

Military: Edwards supports increasing military subsidies, implementing preferential tax policies for soldiers with children under the age of 17, and advocating improving the salary, housing conditions and medical security of the US military. Edwards believes that more needs should be solved for the families of soldiers, and more care should be given to the children of families of active duty personnel and reserve personnel by legislation.

Economy: While restoring long-term fiscal discipline and balancing American business activities, Edwards put forward a plan to stimulate economic development in the short term. Edwards strives for more resources to help individuals and collectives recover from the recession of trading enterprises.

Education: Strengthening public schools is one of Edwards' top priorities. Edwards opposed the private education voucher scheme.

Security and foreign policy: Edwards believes that the country must be protected, but not at the expense of rights and freedoms. Edwards insists that the United States has the right to defend itself and act within the scope of international law.

Edwards supports legislation to improve airport security, strengthen seaport security, reduce vulnerability to bioterrorism activities, and strengthen law enforcement agencies to prevent known terrorists from entering the country. He stressed that legislation should be adopted to strengthen the safety of nuclear delivery vehicles (container strength, shipment escort and emergency coordination). Edwards advocates legislation to combat cyber terrorism.

Edwards suggested setting up a new domestic security intelligence agency to crack down on terrorist organizations, enhance border security, strengthen the resistance of terrorist targets when they are attacked, and develop a better emergency warning system.

Immigration: Edwards is in favor of strengthening border security, reducing the number of border deaths and solving the problem of large-scale influx of illegal immigrants. Edwards is a spokesman for encouraging family reunion and advocating citizenship and immigration to solve the backlog of immigrants. Edwards advocates speeding up the application for citizenship by immigrants serving in the US military and exempting them from handling fees. Edwards opposes the establishment of a migrant worker program that does not grant citizenship. Edwards supports all major extensions of the H- 1B visa.

Law and Justice: Edwards Opposes Racial Discrimination. He is in favor of giving all those people in America due procedural rights.

Gay rights: Although Edwards does not support the legalization of gay marriage, he opposes the constitutional amendment that defines marriage. He supported the adoption right of gay couples and abolished the US military's policy of "don't ask, don't tell" about homosexuality.
