George Mason University QS ranking: 453rd.
1. Introduction to the College
It is a famous first-level national university in the United States and a major university that has risen rapidly in the United States in the past ten years. The school was officially established in 1972. It was formerly an affiliated college of the University of Virginia. After independence, it expanded rapidly and produced two Nobel Prize winners in economics and three Pulitzer Prize winners in just over 40 years.
George Mason University enjoys a world-class reputation in many academic research fields, such as law, political science, public policy, economics, computer, engineering and other majors. In the 2015 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), George Mason University ranked 66th in the United States, second only to the University of Virginia in the greater Washington area.
2. Catering
In order to provide students with nutritionally balanced meals, the school requires boarding students to customize their boarding and dining plans. The school requires all new students to purchase a meal plan. Upperclassmen living in residence halls with kitchen appliances and residential counselors are not required to have a meal plan.
Such accommodation areas include: The Apartments, Liberty Square, Northern Neck, Potomac Heights, Rogers and The Townhouses. The Block meal plan includes all meals needed for one semester. There are approximately 16 weeks in a semester. Traditional meals contain the required meals for each week.
3. Accommodation
There are more than 40 dormitories on campus, including traditional-style dormitories, suite-style dormitories and apartment-style dormitories. Most freshmen live in traditional-style residence halls. All upperclassmen live in suite- or apartment-style residence halls. The housing on campus is divided into three communities: Aquia Community, Rappahannock Community and Shenandoah Community.
Each community is equipped with dozens of staff. The rent and food costs in universities are relatively high because most of the dormitories were built more than ten years ago. In addition, the areas near the capital of Victoria are developing rapidly and the cost of living is also rising. However, the school has repeatedly emphasized that although there are only 3,000 dormitories, first-year students will receive priority.
