Introduction to Alice Island

Alice Island is an artificial island located in Upper New York Bay in the United States. The area is about 11 hectares. Alice Island was once the New York State fort and powder magazine, and the United States' main immigration checkpoint. Alice Island is considered a symbol of American immigration. There is an Immigration Museum on the island. It became part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965 and opened to tourists in 1976. In October 2012, it was hit by Hurricane Sandy and was forced to close due to the destruction of a large number of infrastructure and museum artifacts. On October 28, 2013, Alice Island and the Immigration Museum on the island reopened to the public after renovations.
