Regional division of Nanyang dialect

Due to geographical environment, politics, history and other factors, there are certain differences in Nanyang dialect, especially in pronunciation and vocabulary. There is not much difference in grammar. At present, Nanyang 13 counties and cities can be divided into three dialect areas according to their dialect characteristics, namely, eastern area, western area and central area. The eastern region mainly refers to Tongbai, Tanghe and other counties in the southeast of Nanyang, with Tongbai as the center, many mountains and few plains, bordering Hubei in the south and Xinyang in the east, with an area of about 2,000 square kilometers and a population of about 6,543.8+0.4 million, including Han, Mongolian, Hui, Tibetan, Uygur, Miao, Zhuang, Dong, Yao, Bai and Tujia. The western region mainly includes Xixia, Xichuan and Neixiang counties, Zhenping and western Dengzhou. It is a hilly area, bordering Hubei in the south and Shaanxi in the west, with an area of about 8,600 square kilometers and a population of about 6,543.8+0.7 million. This area is centered on Neixiang. The central area mainly includes Wancheng, Wolong, Fangcheng, Sheqi, Nanzhao, Xinye, Tanghe West, Zhenping and Dengzhou East. This area is dominated by plains, bordering Hubei in the south, with an area of about10.5 million square kilometers and a population of about 7 million. This area is centered on Nanyang city. The language differences in the above three aspects are mainly manifested in language and vocabulary.
