Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge of Yi (Chongqing Wanzhou-Hubei Yichang) Railway broke ground yesterday, which is the first Yangtze River Railway Bridge in the Three Gorges reservoir area. The construction of this bridge opened the prelude to the railway construction in Wan Yi. The Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge, which started construction, is located 7 kilometers upstream of the Yangtze River in Wanzhou City and was built by China Railway Bridge Bureau No.5 Company. The total length of the bridge is1106m, with a total investment of 200 million yuan. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in May 2005.

Wan Yi Railway is a part of Shanghai-Chengdu Railway along the Yangtze River, with a total length of 376 kilometers and a total investment of 654.38+0.7 billion yuan. According to the introduction of Wanzhou Railway Office, it is expected that the whole line will be started in June next year. At present, the general direction has been made clear: starting from Yichang, passing through Changyang, Badong, Jianshi, Enshi and Lichuan, passing through Qiyueshan Tunnel, and then going to Wanzhou Immigration Development Zone, and connecting with Dawan Railway at Wanzhou Railway Station, but it is under construction. It is said that Chongqing has been built for 42 kilometers, with an investment of about 2.5 billion yuan. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2007. As the line crosses the mountainous areas along the Yangtze River, it is also the most difficult railway to build in China at present, with the proportion of bridges and tunnels reaching 58.6% (the number of bridges and tunnels in mountainous areas only accounts for about 50%), 8 tunnels in Gao Qiao 190 meters and 3 tunnels in 10 kilometers.
