Georges perec's works
The style of the whole movie is very similar to Duras's works in the 1970s. There is no dialogue in the whole film, only the behavior of the characters, the imaginary scenes and the long shots that can't be longer, and there are a lot of voiceovers. A female voice read the hero's daily diary in French. This is undoubtedly a personal experimental film. It may be a bit difficult to understand if you don't know French, but apart from the language barrier, other aspects of the film, such as photography.
1980 The Legend of Alice Island was Perek's last video work with his own label. In fact, it was a documentary made by Perek and French filmmaker Robert Bober (who was the assistant director of Trevor's Four Hundred Down, filmed The Pianist and Julius and Jim) when they went to Alice Island, telling the history and present situation of American immigrants in the early 20th century.
Alice Island, located in New York, USA, used to be an immigration checkpoint and an outpost to enter this Durham peanut wonderland. About 40% of American ancestors once lived on this 28-acre island. From 1892 to 1924, about16 million immigrants stayed in Alice Island, waiting for immigration permission.
The immigration port of Alice Island was closed in 1954, but people's desire to come to the United States to realize the American dream never stopped.
The third film, Je Me Souviens, is actually an experimental drama, which was also adapted from Perek's script before his death. The film was shot in 1990 and directed by Sami Frey, a famous French actor in the new wave period. He has performed well in many classic films, such as "Five to Seven" by Cleo of Valda, "Tres" by Francois, and "The Outsider" by Goda.
"Je Me Souviens" is a one-man show directed and performed by himself, all of which was completed on the stage. In fact, there was only one scene in 70 minutes. Sami Frey in a suit and tie was riding a bicycle in the dark, and then he mumbled a long and difficult sentence, but he didn't listen carefully. Anyway, the more he talked, the more excited he became, and the faster he pedaled. Then I saw that the stage scenery and lights behind the bicycle were constantly changing with his words, rising and falling, adding props and decreasing. In fact, the bike didn't move at all, and the whole feeling was just like watching Sami Frey ride a fitness bike, which was ridiculous. Don't know French.
