Chaoshan immigrants

Immigrants from chaozhou people began in the Song and Yuan Dynasties.

With the change of dynasties, some subjects of the old dynasty fled abroad and engaged in maritime trade for a long time without returning, which were the two main reasons for the early hipsters to go abroad.

At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, Song Bing retreated to Chaozhou, and the influx of people joined the anti-Yuan ranks. After the defeat, many adherents fled overseas.

In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, some hipsters fled overseas after failing to participate in the anti-Qing struggle and seeing the light again. After the formation of the Maritime Silk Road, especially after the development of maritime trade in the Ming Dynasty, some hipsters emigrated overseas through maritime trade.

During the reign of Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, the maritime ban was gradually opened, and the overseas port of Chaozhou was moved from Raoping Zhelin to Zhang Lin, so a large number of Chaozhou talents went abroad by "red-headed boat". 19 During the 1960s and 40s of the 20th century, Chaoshan immigrants went abroad to form several climaxes. Political instability, rural economic bankruptcy and frequent natural disasters are the main reasons for the high tide of immigration. In particular, Chaozhou's "narrow land and dense population", coupled with natural and man-made disasters, has caused more and more influx of people to emigrate overseas.

Where there is tide, there are hipsters. At present, the distribution of chaozhou people in the world is almost according to the ratio of1:1,and the total number of Chaoshan people is between 30 million and 35 million (including the total number of overseas Chinese in Chaoshan 1 1 10,000 or more (including overseas Chinese). The main distribution areas are: Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta, Bohai Rim, Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Xiamen, Hainan, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Macau, France, the United States, Australia, Canada, Britain, South Korea, Japan, South Africa and Myanmar.

Compared with the national population of 654.38+0.3 billion, 654.38+0.6 million Chaoshan people only account for a small part of the population, not a big number. But if we look outside China, we will find an amazing figure-among the 50 million Chinese people currently distributed around the world, there are as many as150,000 Chaoshan people, accounting for 30%!
