Records of Zeng Fanren’s scientific expedition to Qinghai
The Hubei Miracle Team, which was responsible for the transportation task of the "Discover Qinghai" large-scale scientific expedition trip, rushed to Hoh Xil and successfully completed the task under the leadership of team leader "Car God" Zeng Fanren, team leader Hu Wei, and deputy team leader Yu Gangping. The one-month trip ended successfully. On the afternoon of July 19, we arrived in Wuhan safely.
On June 19, 2005, 13 specially modified racing cars carried scientific expedition teams and media representatives from all walks of life, including CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, Beijing TV, Phoenix TV, Sunshine TV, Qinghai TV, Hubei TV A convoy of more than 60 people from TV stations, Sina and other reporters set off from Wuhan, passed through Xining, and headed to Karmo on June 23. The next day they arrived at the first non-freezing spring protection station in Hoh Xil, 4,500 meters above sea level. After a short period of climate adaptation, we set off for Zhuonai Lake in the hinterland of Hoh Xil at 7:00 a.m. on June 27. After 13 hours of long-distance running, we arrived at the destination of an uninhabited land about 5,000 meters above sea level. For a long time, Zhuonai Lake has been the main area where Tibetan antelopes migrate and give birth. The significance of this large-scale scientific expedition is to promote the protection of Tibetan antelopes and promote the Qinghai region, especially in applying for the Tibetan antelope to become the mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Hubei Miracle Team made great contributions to the smooth progress of this scientific expedition.
Coach Zeng Fanren, the "Car God", said that Hoh Xil is famous for its harsh climate conditions. There is a folk proverb: non-freezing springs, non-freezing springs. The climate changes three times a day; hail falls in the morning and rain falls in the evening. , the snowflakes are falling against the sun. This is a true portrayal of climate change in Hoh Xil in one day.
Due to the extremely high altitude, thin air, and extremely harsh environment, the average annual temperature is minus 4-10 degrees Celsius, and the lowest temperature is minus 46 degrees Celsius. It's midsummer, but at the Freezing Spring Protection Station, the ice beneath our feet is 2-3 meters thick. We arrived at Zhuonai Lake at 20:00 on the evening of June 27, which is known as the no-man’s land and the death zone. Most of the people suffered from strong altitude sickness, with their faces turning blue and their breathing rapid. Some people are unsteady, move slowly, don't want to talk, and don't even have the energy to chew gum or flip through a magazine. Six people have already shown dangerous signs, because it is already night, everything is dark, cold and hungry. As the team leader, I had only one belief at that time, which was to bring the entire team back safely. I decided to drive all night to send six seriously ill patients back to the base camp. Because it is an uninhabited area, only wild animals roam around. The wind blew past my ears, and the severe altitude sickness gave me a splitting headache. In addition, the terrain along the way was treacherous, and I was in danger of falling into a swamp at any time. I thought to myself that the lives of six other people were in my hands at the steering wheel, so I must not be careless. While concentrating, you have to keep communicating loudly to avoid "falling asleep" due to altitude sickness. At 5:00 in the morning, they finally arrived at the Freezing Spring Protection Station safely and received timely treatment. After a slight adjustment, we started to return to Zhuonai Lake. We must meet up with the main force as soon as possible. We finally returned to Zhuonai Lake at 17:00 in the afternoon. A group of passionate men hugged each other and cried together. Their mood was indescribable. The physical exertion was very great, with three meals consisting of dry bread and gruel. The harsh climate and dietary conditions tested our will every moment. I would like to thank all members of the entire team for being able to unite as one at the most critical moment; encouraging and helping each other when everyone is vulnerable is an important guarantee for our successful return.
This is a successful conclusion to this Hoh Xil scientific examination!
