Why did the U.S. military madly shoot the bodies of its comrades?

As we all know, "take everyone home" is one of the most famous creeds of the US military. After the Vietnam War, the US military began to search for more than 80,000 soldiers missing in overseas battlefields since World War II. To this end, the US military established the Joint Investigation Command for Prisoners of War and Missing Persons in Action (JPAC), whose footprints are all over the rainforest, snow-capped mountains and even the seabed. Every year, the remains of about 60-80 missing soldiers are found and brought back to the United States to be buried with their families or comrades. For the comrades who died in the battlefield, the soldiers are all in pain. In China's army, if someone dies, others will take revenge for him. Finally, even if he can't take the body back to his hometown, he will find a place to bury him. But American soldiers are not like this.

If someone in the American army dies, then others will shoot his body crazily, which is a bit unreasonable. Why on earth did they do this? In fact, the US military did this not because they were too cruel, but because they did not sacrifice more people. Some people will place "booby traps" under the bodies, which are weapons to exploit the feelings between comrades. The core idea of booby trap is that it can not only kill the enemy effectively, but also cause great fear and psychological effect on the battlefield. Booby traps are called attractive backstabbing and killers in the fashion world. Because booby traps are covered with attractive and confusing clothes, they are set in places where the enemy must pass or may be close, so it is easy to achieve the effect of killing the enemy by surprise, and can make the enemy have serious fear, thus disturbing and delaying his actions.

One of the most common methods in war is to use the opponent's body to lay booby traps. During the Vietnam War, the Vietnamese army often installed booby traps on the bodies of American soldiers, and when other American soldiers passed by to collect the bodies of their colleagues, they were often taken in. Later, in order to save their lives, American soldiers found that there were comrades-in-arms, so they had to shoot the bodies of comrades-in-arms from a long distance and make sure that there were no booby traps before they dared to approach and collect the bodies. Regarding the harm caused by booby traps to the US military, an American general once recalled: "Enemy mines are a constant threat to our army, and 70% of our army's vehicle losses and 30% of our casualties are caused by mines and booby traps."

In actual combat, the US military found the bodies of missing comrades several times before and rushed forward to see if there was any breath. As a result, at the moment when the body was touched, the body was detonated by booby traps, and all the American troops who came to see it nearby were killed or seriously injured! In this regard, the US military strictly ordered soldiers not to drag back the body unless they were injured or sacrificed in front of them. If it cannot be ruled out, they must shoot their bodies to eliminate the danger of booby traps.

In modern military warfare, in order to minimize casualties, we need not only professional military quality and advanced military facilities, but also constant vigilance and unremitting efforts. Otherwise, once you meet such a powerful killer who is good at camouflage, you are likely to die. It seems crazy for American troops to shoot and kill their comrades. In fact, they used another way to protect themselves and didn't give the enemy any chance to hurt them.
