How many Chinese are there in Canada?

The latest data in 2015 shows that there are 1.8 million Chinese in Canada.

Chinese Canadians, namely Chinese Canadians (English: Chinese Canadians, French: Sino-Canadiens), refer to Chinese immigrants who immigrated to or were born in Canada. In 2005, there were approximately 1,612,173 people of Chinese ancestry in Canada, of which approximately 100,000 were mixed-race Chinese.

The Chinese are the largest ethnic minority group in Canada, accounting for 4% of the total population in 2005. The latest data in 2015 shows that the number of Chinese has reached 1.8 million, accounting for 5% of the Canadian population.

Main distribution

In 2001, almost 75% of the Chinese population lived in Toronto or Vancouver. The Chinese population accounts for 17% of Vancouver's population and 9% of Toronto's population.

Among the Chinese who immigrated to Canada in 2000/2001, more than half claimed that the reason for settling was that their relatives and friends had already settled in Canada. About 25 per cent claimed they came to Toronto for career prospects, while many moved to Vancouver because of its pleasant climate.
