The Population Language in Xiaohe Township
There are many people who speak Hakka, so Xiaohe Township has distinctive Hakka cultural characteristics. Hakka dialect can travel all over the country.
Most of the Hakkas living in Xiaohe, Zhang Fang and even the whole eastern and southern Liuyang moved from Meizhou in Guangdong or Ganzhou in Jiangxi in the early Qing Dynasty, with a history of more than 300 years.
It's been a long time, and people today can't tell why their ancestors moved out of Jiangxi, Guangdong Province more than 300 years ago, and why they chose Liuyang, a place with mountains. There are several versions about Hakkas moving to Liuyang, and the most popular one is that Zhu Yuanzhang went to war with Chen Youliang in the early Ming Dynasty. Because Liuyang people supported Chen Youliang, Zhu Yuanzhang bloodbath Liuyang, resulting in a tragic scene of "a vast territory with few people and no smoke", which made a large number of people in Liuyang's surrounding provinces migrate to Liuyang.
According to Liuyang County Records, "In the second year of Song Deyou [1276], Yuan soldiers attacked Tan [Tanzhou, now Changsha] and Liu Jun was wiped out. In order to recruit people from neighboring counties, the land is real. " As a result, foreign immigrants moved in one after another, most of whom came from Jiangxi and became the main source of population at that time.
During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, a group of Fujian people fled to Yichun, Jiangxi Province, and then Guangdong people followed suit, reaching tens of thousands. They live in tents and are called "shed people". After the Ming Dynasty, the "shed people" continued to fight against the Qing Dynasty, were killed by the Qing court and forced to flee. Some of them sneaked into the deep forests of Liuyang and reclaimed land. These immigrants have kept their original Hakka dialect and passed it down from generation to generation, so they are called "Hakka surnames". At that time, the relatively wide places were all places where Jiangxi immigrants lived, so the "Hakka surname" had to settle in the mountains. Looking at the genealogy of Xiaohe's surname, most of them moved to Xiaohe in the early Qing Dynasty.
It's a long time, and most of them can't be tested, but in any case, it's an indisputable fact that Hakka people left their ancestors, drifted from place to place, went through hardships and migrated thousands of miles to Liuyang to thrive and form their own unique Hakka culture.
