Regarding "Chaoshan culture", it is necessary for us to clarify the name first. The reason why it is called "Chaoshan culture" has a basis and reference, which is Lingnan culture. At present, the mainstream view of historical and cultural circles in our province is that Lingnan culture includes Guangfu culture, Hakka culture and Chaoshan culture, all of which are regional cultures. The classified volume of China Cultural Dictionary and Cultural Highlights is called Local Culture with Strong Local Characteristics. Guangfu people, Hakka people and Chaoshan people all have a large number of overseas immigrants, and the culture they formed belongs to a certain group and clan, but as a subculture, they are all local culture in the final analysis. As a local culture, only the word "Chaoshan" can cover Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang, as well as Hailufeng in Shanwei and Fengshun Tai Po in Meizhou.
I don't mind calling it Chaoshan culture. At the end of 1980s, many people of insight, including some non-Chaozhou leaders in the province, such as Vice Governor Wang Pingshan, began to propose a systematic study of this unique local culture. Therefore, in June 1990 1, Shantou University took the lead in establishing the "Chaoshan Culture Research Center" headed by Professor Du, and published two sets of Chaoshan Culture Research Series. At the end of the following year, at the initiative of President Wu Nansheng, the Chaoshan Historical and Cultural Research Center was jointly established in the three cities of Chaoshan, with President Liu Feng as the chairman and Mr. Zong Yishao as the consultant; At the end of 1993, Tidal Research edited by Mr. Zong Yirao was published. Since then, Jieyang City has also established the "Jieyang Research Association of Chaoshan Historical and Cultural Research Center". During this period, many well-known scholars have written articles about "Chaoshan culture". For example, Zhan Bohui's My Opinion on Chaoshan Culture in the New Century, Ceng Qi's Prehistoric Archaeology in Hanjiang Valley and the Source of Chaoshan Culture, Cai Qixian's Blending of Foreign Culture and Chaoshan Culture, Lin Lunlun's Re-understanding of Tide Studies and Chaoshan Culture, Zhao's Brief Discussion on the Transformation of Modern Chaoshan Culture, Singapore's Chaoshan Culture by Huang, and Chaoshan Culture by Weng Shaoqiu of the United States. In July, 20001year, The History of Chaoshan, edited by Chen Zhanshan and approved by Du, was published, which indicated that the study of Chaoshan history and culture had achieved initial results.
Let's not forget that leaders of Chaoshan three cities and guests at home and abroad gave enthusiastic speeches on the topic of "Chaoshan culture" at every symposium on Chaoshan studies. For example, in the second session (1997), Deputy Secretary Qin Changda of Chaozhou clearly stated: "Chaoshan culture has a long history, unique regional cultural style and profound historical accumulation." Mr Zhuang Shiping said: "Chaoshan culture is a tributary of China culture". Mr Chen Weinan also emphasized that "Chaoshan culture is an inseparable part of China culture". Mr. Li Ka-shing also sent a congratulatory message to the seminar, pointing out very clearly that "Chaoshan culture is rich, with a long history and distinctive features". To say "* * * knowledge" is the * * * knowledge of hipsters at home and abroad.
It is puzzling that in the past year or two, some people think that the word "Shantou" of "Chaoshan" came out late, while "Chaozhou" has a long history and is more representative, so they put up the banner of "Chaozhou culture", disdaining to mention "Chaoshan culture" and dismissing Lingnan culture. This view is obviously inappropriate.
As we all know, the word "Chaoshan" is a geographical name, which has long been accepted by most people, and the concept of location is very clear. As a place name, there is no need to consider when one of the words appears. If the word "Chaozhou" is used, it is inevitable that people will mistakenly think that it refers to Chaozhou in today's administrative area, which is easy to cause ambiguity. Calling it "Chaozhou culture" is tantamount to tying yourself up. Therefore, it is not appropriate to use "Chaozhou culture" to refer to the culture in Chaoshan area. This is just like we should not call Guangfu culture Guangzhou culture and Hakka culture Meizhou culture. We might as well look for some distinctive and representative local cultures in China, such as Qilu culture, Wuyue culture, Jingchu culture, Yanzhao culture, Bashu culture, Sanjin culture and so on. It can be said that none of them refer to administrative domain names. For example, the Wuyue culture covering most areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang and parts of Anhui and Jiangxi obviously cannot be covered by the name of the administrative region.
