The origin of the name Suzhou River

The name Suzhou River began in the mid-20th century after Shanghai opened as a port. Some adventurous foreign immigrants took boats from Shanghai and went up the Wusong River to Suzhou, so they casually called it "Suzhou River". . By 1848, when Shanghai Daotai Lingui signed an agreement to expand the British concession with the British consul in Shanghai, Wusongjiang was officially written as "Suzhou River" for the first time.
