A slightly disappointing place of interest: the legendary ghost town, this is the ghost country Kyoto

Fengdu, this word may not make people think of where it is. But it usually appears together with another word to form a place name that can be said to be famous at all times and at home and abroad: Fengdu Ghost Town.

Fengdu Ghost Town is located in Fengdu County, more than 100 kilometers downstream of the Yangtze River in Chongqing. It usually takes about 2 hours to drive from the main city, along the highway along the Yangtze River, and through Fuling District. From the "Bazi Biedu" in the Spring and Autumn Period to the official establishment of Fengdu County in the Han Dynasty, the cultural accumulation over thousands of years has integrated Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism.

I remember when I was playing the Fairy Sword game when I was a kid, there would be scenes and stories about Fengdu. Ghost towns are of course associated with horror. At the same time, various TV and film productions are also inseparable from this place. The most authentic and appropriate way to see this place is through the black and white photos of my mother from a long time ago. She told me about the scenes when she was young and told me that it was really scary.

After that, I finally came here to visit. There is a famous saying among tourists across the country: If you don’t come, you will regret it for a while; if you come, you will regret it for the rest of your life. Although most scenic spots can be ridiculed with this sentence. But compared with the reputation of Fengdu Ghost Town in ancient and modern times, it can be seen that this scenic spot is only 4A.

After the Three Gorges Migration, the old county seat of Fengdu has been gathering dust at the bottom of the Yangtze River. People lived on the other side and built new urban areas. There is a sculpture of Bai Wuchang at the gate, and the ticket office at the gate is not much different from other scenic spots. It’s just that the newly built portrait of Emperor Fengdu on the top of the famous mountain behind it looks too dramatic.

According to locals, Fengdu was pretty good more than 10 years ago and had many places of interest. In recent years, many clay sculptures of ghosts and gods have been lost and are now turned into plastic products. It is said that CCTV has reported on it, and there are also some bad news about local managers.

Do you think it will be scary after playing around for a while? I remember that Fengdu in movies, TV series and games is a scary place. My mother also told me that the dolls in Fengdu Ghost Town are scary. Although some things are related to culture and state of mind, it is indeed difficult for people to think that Fengdu is a ghost town now. Some people even think that it is worse than a haunted house in an ordinary park.

Come to the Temple of Wealth, where Bigan, the God of Wealth and Wealth, and Zhao Gongming, the God of Wealth and Wealth, are enshrined. The figures inside don't seem to have much heritage. Only the temple itself has some cultural reservations. And, the Chenghuang Temple is also one of the nearly 30 temples inside.

Climb all the way up the famous mountain and come to the group of stone sculptures. In the middle is Emperor Fengdu. Also known as the Beiyin Emperor, he is the seventh-level Taoist deity. There are 119 ghost officials listed on the left and right, who are in charge of the ghost city and the underworld.

Continue to travel forward and you will come to Naihe Bridge, which can be said to be as famous as Fengdu Ghost Town. Naihe Bridge, built in the early Ming Dynasty, is divided into Golden Bridge and Silver Bridge. In our mythology system, Naihe Bridge is the only way to be reincarnated. There should be a Meng Po next to it, distributing Meng Po soup to every ghost passing by to travel to the past life and this life.

The Mingshan Tianzi Hall, built in the Jin Dynasty, is the residence of King Yama in the Five Halls and is the center of the ghost city. The existing buildings were rebuilt in the early Qing Dynasty.

The entire Fengdu Ghost Town tour does not take too long, and a one-day round trip from the main city of Chongqing is enough. For a place that has been famous throughout the ages and at home and abroad, its current appearance is truly disappointing. Even if there is good historical and cultural heritage that has taken root in this place, if it is not well protected. If it is also damaged. Everything that was once will disappear. What is left are only legends, and only the themes of games and film and television dramas.
