Will immigrants studying in Australia get PR once and for all?

The so-called PR is a permanent resident, and getting an Australian PR means getting an Australian permanent visa, which is different from the "green card" that students understand, because "green card" can only be obtained by adding nationality. Our government doesn't recognize dual citizenship, so once students choose to join Australian citizenship, it means giving up China citizenship, and it is quite troublesome to apply for a Chinese visa if they want to return to China in the future. Therefore, many students choose to keep the Australian Permanent Residence Visa (PR) instead of obtaining the Australian "green card".

Australia's permanent residence visa is valid for 5 years. During the five-year validity period, everyone can freely enter and leave Australia, and as long as they stay in Australia and don't leave the country, they can stay in Australia forever. But since the validity period of this visa is stipulated, it means it will expire. What should I do if I want to continue to enter and leave Australia after five years? The way is to apply for "155/ 157 resident return visa", that is, "renew PR".

"Updating PR" needs to consider three factors:

1. Residence time in Australia in recent five years: that is, the accumulated residence time in Australia is valid after five years, and it can be renewed for five years as long as you have lived for two years or more.

2. Substantive ties beneficial to Australia: whether an individual has substantive and beneficial ties with Australia, including business ties, cultural ties, employment ties and personal ties.

There are convincing reasons for leaving Australia: that is, individuals leave Australia because of "convincing" events. Of course, the Immigration Bureau will also comprehensively consider the applicant's residence time in Australia and other relevant circumstances.
