Article 3 The examination and approval process for self-funded students studying abroad shall be handled in accordance with the methods prescribed by the public security department, except as otherwise provided in Article 12 of these regulations. Article 5: Employees who are currently studying abroad at their own expense can generally stay on without pay. If they request to resign, they can agree to it. For those who are suspended without pay, their wages will be suspended starting from the month following their departure from the country. If a person who goes abroad for further study returns to work in the country within 5 years, his/her seniority can be calculated continuously. If a person returns to work in the country after 5 years, the working time before going abroad and the time of working after returning to the country will be combined to calculate the seniority.

Article 6 If self-funded study abroad personnel who have obtained master’s or doctorate degrees (including those who have converted from self-funded to self-funded government-sponsored study abroad) return to work in the country, the state will provide international travel expenses back home.

Article 7 Those who study abroad at their own expense may return to their country to visit relatives, take vacations, and do internships as many times as they want during their studies abroad. Article 8 Before those who study abroad at their own expense go abroad, their units and competent authorities should take the initiative to introduce to them the regulations on studying abroad and the relevant situations abroad, and provide them with guidance on the majors they want to study abroad; after going abroad, the original Units and embassies and consulates stationed abroad should take the initiative to keep in touch with them, encourage them to study hard, and care about their lives abroad and their relatives at home.

Article 9 The inspection and release of the entry and exit baggage and items of self-financed overseas students are the same as those of public-funded students studying abroad, and are handled in accordance with the "Customs Regulations on the Administration of Entry and Exit Luggage and Items of Chinese People Going Abroad".

Article 10. After returning to China, those who study abroad at their own expense should arrange their work based on the principles of consistency between study and application and respect for their own wishes.
