In the hometown of overseas Chinese in southern Fujian and the settlement of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, the story of Gusao Tower is more popular. Legend has it that a long time ago, there was a drought in southern Fujian, and no crops were harvested. A poor man named Haisheng couldn't afford the rent of the rich, so he was forced to leave his newly married wife and beloved sister and went to Nanyang, promising to come back three years later to pay his debts. After the poor brother went to Nanyang, the two sisters-in-law climbed Baogai Mountain every day and looked at the big returnees' boat, hoping that their relatives in their bones would go home and reunite. In a blink of an eye, three years later, my poor brother came back by boat. On the mountain, my aunt and I saw my brother's boat approaching the coast. Unexpectedly, there was a sudden strong wind and heavy rain, and the rough waves overturned my poor brother's sailboat. My poor brother died in the sea, and my aunt and sister-in-law jumped into the sea with joy ... People built this Gusao Tower to commemorate them.

This is of course a legend, but it is a witness to the bitter life and tragic experience of the people in the hometown of overseas Chinese, and also a witness to the history of overseas migration of the people in the hometown of overseas Chinese. As we all know, shishi city is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in southern Fujian, and it is also a region closely related to Hong Kong and Taiwan.
