Comprehension of Reading The Analects of Confucius (84)

Original: Zi wants to live in Jiuyi. Or: "What about ugliness?" Confucius said, "How can a gentleman be humble if he lives there?"

Confucius wanted to move to Jiuyi, a place outside the Central Plains. Someone said, "That place is very closed and backward. How can you live? " Confucius said, "How can a gentleman be humble when he lives there?"

My feeling:

The Analects of Confucius once again shows us Confucius' cultural confidence.

Jiuyi: the general name of tribes living in eastern Shandong and the middle and lower reaches of Huaihe River in the pre-Qin period. At that time, the traffic there was blocked, and the economy and culture were relatively backward compared with the Central Plains.

Ugliness: cultural isolation, ignorance and uncivilized.

Confucius also grumbled when he was in a bad mood. Earlier, he once said: "The road is impassable, so you can float on the sea by fork." Said, if my ideal doesn't work, I will sit in a boat and spend the rest of my life in the river and sea.

Today, Confucius didn't know what was going on, and suddenly wanted to live in a remote area. It is estimated that there is constant war in the Central Plains. He traveled around the world to implement benevolent policies and hit a wall everywhere, intending to immigrate to ethnic minority areas.

Someone told him that it is not convenient to eat, wear and live simply. How can you live there?

Confucius made an electric light here: "Where a gentleman lives, why is it ugly?"

Confucius said: when I go, I will have food to eat, books to read, students to teach and spread civilization, but I am still afraid that it will fall behind.

According to the current literature, I am on this mountain, and this mountain is Kunlun; I am in this water, which is the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. If I go to the lowlands, they will become a paradise on earth.

This sentence was later quoted by Liu Yuxi in his famous book "Humble Room Inscription", which made the finishing touch.

Teacher Fan Deng's interpretation: This sentence represents the courage of a gentleman and the cultural confidence of Confucius-living like a bright lamp, where it shines, it shines.

Su Dongpo, a famous "slash youth" and a great writer in history, was demoted to Huangzhou, a backward folk custom, because of Wutai poetry case. He cultivated land there, developed charity, taught local farmers to eat pork, invented "Dongpo meat" and wrote poems. Beijing's pop songs are still written by Soviet geniuses.

Later, he was exiled to Huizhou, Lingnan, which is sparsely populated and backward in productivity. Su Dongpo saw the hard work of farmers bending over to plow fields and transplant rice seedlings, so he invented the seedling horse and liberated the old waist of local farmers.

Finally, Su Dongpo, who was over 60 years old, was banished to Hainan, where it was hot, humid and even more desolate. People still enjoy eating oysters, and at the same time teach local aborigines to learn culture, treat the poor well, and harmonize the relationship between local residents and Han people.

Of course, I will also hear some people complain: my parents control me, my leaders suppress me, my colleagues kick me, my friends betray me ... If I study hard and get along with people around me with wisdom and love, like Confucius, Su Dongpo and Xie, "What's the matter?"

Nine times out of ten, life is not satisfactory. If we really live in a humble room and make friends with scum, we often use this sentence to cheer ourselves up: "Where a gentleman lives, why should we be modest?"

Teacher Fan Deng said that if you live like a beam of light, even if you can't illuminate more people, you are not afraid of the darkness.
