This South American town is not only like a fairy tale garden, but also has the lowest altitude of the spectacular glaciers.
Such an unknown town gradually became clear because we lived here. From the glacier, which was the main theme at the beginning, to later, every moment we went deep into the town, we were immersed in this fairy tale world. The city is slowly moved by the beautiful gardens. This is a small town in the middle of South America - El Calafate.
The abundant sunshine shines warmly on everything here, the flowers are blooming luxuriantly, and the charm of the Garden City is everywhere. No one could have imagined that this small town, located on the side of the glacier at the lowest altitude in the world, would be as dreamy as Europe.
Of course, the biggest goal of coming here is still to see this spectacular group of glaciers and to feel the excitement of hiking on the glaciers.
After running around for a long time, we finally arrived in El Calafate in the afternoon. The blazing sun forced us to take off our down jackets. Today's station has been moved outside the city, and is on a hillside. We didn't know clearly and couldn't use Uber, so we stupidly dragged our suitcases and arduously walked to the hotel on the stone road.
After checking into the hotel, there are still some things that need to be done, such as exchanging money, buying tickets, confirming hiking equipment, etc. So we walked from the hotel to the center of the town to do some business. The hotel we stayed in was on the outskirts of the town, so when we slowly walked into the center of the town, there were such beautiful garden houses along the way, as if we had arrived at the residence of a fairy tale character~
There is plenty of sunshine El Calafate has become a fairy tale garden, wrapped in various colors and decorated especially cutely.
The only church in the town, located in the center of the town, the almost empty church has a romantic design and a beautiful garden. Decorated with pine trees, it is cute and small, like a house in the dwarf country.
The garden on the side of the church is full of lavender, so beautiful that we couldn’t bear to leave. Wear a princess dress and go to the garden to be a little princess~
Each shop has its own unique garden. Visitors like to enjoy life in the sun, which is very interesting.
There were countless pine cones hanging on the pine trees, and suddenly for a moment it seemed like I was in the hometown of Santa Claus. If it snows, this place will look different, and it will feel more like a fairy tale city
The small town is not big or small, so we can only stay on the main city road. Find a fairy garden.
It looks like a town in Lilliput, but it is actually a shopping mall, but the things made are so cute~
The place where El Calafate is located is called Bata Konya is a paradise for adventurous people around the world, and the most common animals here are cattle and sheep, both of which are very delicious~
The shocking glaciers instantly stirred up waves in my heart. , waiting for this day seems to have been a long time.
In the early morning, the shuttle bus came to the hotel on time to pick us up. After picking up several waves of guests, we changed to a bus outside the city. It takes about an hour to drive from El Calafate to Moreno Glacier. The place where you buy tickets will stop at the door. If you want to come in for two consecutive days like us, you can directly buy a two-day ticket for 1,050 Argentine dollars. As the car goes around the mountain road, you can see the spectacular glaciers from a distance from the first viewing platform.
It is said to be a tour, but it is actually just a round-trip bus transfer. During the 3 hours, you can enjoy the glacier freely. If you reserve enough time in this place, it is recommended to visit the glacier alone, because you will come here again in the early morning of hiking, but you will not give too much time, and you will not be able to see the moment when the ice falls, which is very shocking!
Entering the plank road, you will soon see the spectacular glacier scenery!
The Moreno Glacier is now the lowest living glacier in the world and the closest glacier that humans can reach without climbing mountains. From a distance, the glacier may not seem that high, but in fact it is as high as a 20-story building and stretches for 30 kilometers.
The temperature on the day we arrived was between 10-18 degrees, but it was surprising that the glacier still existed at this temperature.
From the snow-capped mountains in the distance, the white wonder spreads to our eyes, revealing the purest blue between the ice, coming to us, as if we can reach it at our fingertips.
Looking at the cruise ships passing in front of the glacier, you can see how tall the glacier is.
There are three ways to visit the glacier, including boardwalk appreciation, cruise ship viewing and glacier hiking. Generally, a one-day group can experience both boardwalk and glacier cruise, but we chose the boardwalk and glacier hiking. Planting is carried out in two days.
It is said that there used to be a beautiful ice bridge here, a great masterpiece of nature, but in the end it could not escape the rising temperature and melted and fell, and it ceased to exist. It is a pity that I could not see it.
There are still many mysteries about the glacier, such as why there are black things on it. After all, there is no pollution in such a pure and clean place. Moreover, the glaciers at the front are all very pointed in shape, which is constantly being carved by the power of the wind. Although the temperature is not very cold under the sun, the wind is surprisingly strong.
As the sun shines directly and the temperature rises, there are constant sounds, and the glacier is collapsing on its own. This is also one of the most spectacular sights to appreciate the glacier, but not everyone is so lucky. Well, I waited until this moment!
Sometimes there are avalanches in subtle hidden places, but we cannot see them at all, only the appearance of ice floes.
We are really lucky today, because the sun is very good and the temperature is not low, so we can see countless glacier calving moments, even more exciting than the last
Everyone enjoys the moment when the giant ice falls! We were lucky enough to see a super huge piece fall, making a thunderous sound. After the fall, the entire observation deck applauded, it was super burning~
All the rest and preparations were just for this one day.
There are two types of hiking on the Moreno Glacier. One is mini trekking, a hiking experience near the entrance of the glacier. The time is very short, about 1 hour. The focus is on experiencing non-challenging, and is suitable for people with low physical fitness; One is Big Ice, which takes more than 6 hours of full-day hiking, including 3.5 hours of glacier hiking, which tests your physical fitness because to go deep into the glacier, you must first climb the mountain.
Early in the morning, we were picked up at the entrance of the hiking company. We followed the same route to the glacier, and had an hour of free time on the glacier plank road. There is a special shore for glacier hiking, so you must arrive by boat.
It turns out that there is a rock formation on one side of the glacier, and it is also a hiking camp here. I originally wanted to wear a beautiful dress so I could take photos when I went in, but I didn't expect that I had to wear a safety rope around my waist, hips, and legs, so the skirt got stuck, which was embarrassing. This is also the entrance to mini trekking. Not far away, many people have already begun to experience it.
And our hiking has just begun. We have to go deep into the glacier on the path between the glacier and the mountain. The ice got darker as it got closer to the mountain, almost the same as the black we saw on the front. After asking the instructor, he told us the truth. This place has strong winds all year round, and these black rocks are all gravel blown down by the wind from the top of the mountain. The power of this wind is too strong!
Before entering the glacier at the base of the in-depth hiking, you can get your own crampons there, but to actually wear them you still need to reach the ice. The instructor put on the crampons for us. Basically, it’s a group of 8-10 people and two coaches.
The world of ice is really wonderful, with rivers, holes and cracks. Some of the ground you step on looks like there is a river, and you have to confirm whether it has enough support before stepping on it
The instructor will take you to see the landforms in various glaciers, many of which are very magical and dangerous. place. For example, we found an ice cave at the beginning, with an infinite abyss below, which surprised us all.
As we walked further in, the ice began to become clearer and clearer, like a marshmallow-like texture. The feeling of stepping on it with crampons is like stepping on plastic and sand, which is very strange.
There are also canyons in the polynya, and they are very deep and have no bottom. It is dangerous to fall in, but it is so beautiful that it is surprising
Our lunch was in such a beautiful ice field After enjoying it, the lunch that Chengcheng and I prepared was lamb chops, which is simply delicious!
This place really looks like Mianmian Bing, and suddenly I really want to eat Mianmian Bing. The world is so gentle.
After climbing over mountains and ridges, we finally arrived at this clear blue lake. It was so blue that it seemed fake. Each team's process is different, but the scenery they see is different.
The three-and-a-half-hour ice hike ended quickly. Everyone was still excited and not at all happy. However, this kind of experience is still worth it. After all, there are not many opportunities to go so deep into the glacier.
On the return boat, there will be a small celebration banquet, whiskey with glacier ice, and a glacier hiking souvenir~ This is to commemorate every friend who insists on walking across the glacier. !
