First of all, it should be clear that marriage registration and spouse migration are completely different things. The former is the job of the marriage registration office, and the latter is the job of the immigration office. According to the Australian Marriage Registration Law, anyone, regardless of nationality, can register for marriage in Australia as long as he holds a valid travel identity certificate, that is, he can carry his passport with him. No previous marriage certificate is required, but personal information must be truthfully filled in when filling out the application form.

My wife and I got married at the Central Marriage Registry in downtown Sydney, which is located in Regent Street south of Central Railway Station. We can only make an appointment for the first time. Generally, you need to make an appointment at least 40 days in advance, and the total price is about 300 Australian dollars, including a small ceremony presided over by a notary of 180 Australian dollars (no ceremony is illegal, so it is impossible not to do it). On the day of registration, the ceremony will be held in the auditorium on the second floor of the registration office.

Remember that besides going by yourself, you need two witnesses to sign with their certificates. Anyone who knows you more than 18 will do. Don't ask for locals.

If you find some local Chinese witnesses, many of them can make flexible and simple procedures. After the application, you can arrange to witness the wedding without waiting, and you can go to any designated place to witness the wedding (of course, there may be additional fees).
