In today's words, he is a "tall, fierce, bearded, informal, amazing in strength, extraordinary in intelligence and extravagant in life". This is based on the overall description of the contents of Historical Records. It is said that Hu Dahai has never read a book and can't read a book, but he uses soldiers like gods. He also has his own life motto: "Don't kill people, don't rob women, don't burn down houses". This is the most basic principle for Hu Dahai to lead troops to fight.

Hu Dahai is very famous among the people, and his popularity is equal to that of Cheng, Cheng and Cheng. The reason why it is so famous is mainly because of the storytelling Daming Yinglie. In storytelling, he is a clown with ordinary martial arts, but his mouth is particularly vain. He often makes great contributions at critical moments and is a member of the staff. The audience especially likes such characters. They are the courage to tell stories in books.

In fact, Hu Dahai in history is not such a person, he is really capable. Hu Dahai, a native of Hongxian County, Sizhou, followed Zhu Yuanzhang's uprising very early, made expeditions to the east and the west, and repeatedly made meritorious military service. He has little culture, but he has great tolerance and is strict in running the army. His soldiers all admire him. Because he fought bravely and made outstanding achievements, he was made a member of the Privy Council.

In storytelling, Hu Dahai was an old man, but he died very early and miserably in history. After capturing Yanzhou, Hu Dahai accepted Jiang Ying, Serina Liu and Li Fu. But they didn't really surrender, and soon they plotted to rebel. 1362 February, they set a trap to lure Hu Dahai. Jiang Yingxian sent someone to kneel in front of Hu Dahai's horse and accuse Jiang Ying. While Hu Dahai was not paying attention, he took out a gavel hidden in his sleeve, made a sudden attack and punched Hu Dahai on the head. Hu Dahai fell dead. How old did he live? There is no record in history. He should be less than forty years old and in his prime. Zhu Yuanzhang was very sad about his death. Later, after Jiang Ying and others were arrested, they were all killed to avenge Hu Dahai.

After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang made Hu Dahai King of Yue, painted him and enshrined him in Chen Gong Temple, ranking seventh.
