Geographical location of Yellow River diversion irrigation area in Ningxia

The irrigation area of Yellow River Diversion is located between two hydrological stations in the lower reaches of the Yellow River and Shizuishan, and it is distributed in a "J" shape along both banks of the Yellow River. See fig. 2- 1 for the distribution of irrigation areas in Ningxia. The irrigation area involves irrigation from the Yellow River in Qingtongxia City, Yongning County, Yinchuan City, Helan County, Pingluo County, Huinong County, Shizuishan City, Zhongwei County, Zhongning County, wuzhong and lingwu city, covering 1 1 county (city) and more than 20 state-owned agricultural and forestry pastures.

Ningxia Yellow River Diversion Irrigation District is bounded by Qingtongxia Water Control Project, which is divided into Weining Irrigation District in the upstream and Qingtongxia Irrigation District in the downstream.

Due to the natural boundary of the Yellow River, Weining irrigation area is divided into Hebei irrigation area and Henan irrigation area, and Qingtongxia irrigation area is divided into Hedong irrigation area and Hexi irrigation area. At the edge of gravity irrigation area, it is impossible to do gravity irrigation due to the influence of topography. Other pumping irrigation areas such as Biandangou, Wu Li Po, Langpiliang, Ganchengzi and Weining Irrigation Area have been developed one after another. In addition, in order to solve the problem of people's living and irrigation water in the loess hilly area, pumping irrigation areas such as Nanshan Taizi, Tongxin, Guhai, Hongsibao and Yanhuanding have been developed successively.

Weining irrigation area is located in the narrow strip 120km between Shapotou and Qingtongxia of the Yellow River. It was originally a multi-channel system with no dam for water diversion. After the completion of Shapotou Water Control Project, some rivers were diverted by the dam, involving Zhongwei and Zhongning counties, Guangwu Township of Qingtongxia City and 686 kilometers of state-owned Qukou Farm.

Qingtongxia Irrigation District is a dam-controlled diversion project, located in the north of Ningxia, between east longitude105 37 ′ ~106 39 ′ and north latitude 37 49 ′ ~ 39 23 ′. The administrative divisions of Qingtongxia Irrigation District mainly include three prefecture-level cities of Yinchuan, Shizuishan and Wuzhong, eleven counties and cities of Qingtongxia, Litong District, Lingwu, Yongning, Yinchuan Suburb, Helan, Pingluo, Huinong, Tao Le, Yanchi and Tongxin, and thirteen state-owned agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery farms.
