Slave trade began in Britain, France, Netherlands, Spain and Portugal in the 5th century, and then in the United States until 186 1. Because of the dispute over the preservation or abolition of slavery, the American Civil War broke out. In the same year, President abraham lincoln of the North signed the Emancipation Proclamation. 1865, after the war, the declaration was formally approved by the constitution.
