Why is the number of immigrants in Brazil increasing gradually?

The National Refugee Committee (CONARE) of the Brazilian Ministry of Justice recently pointed out that in the past year, due to the national crisis in Venezuela and the change of American immigration policy, the total number of foreigners applying for immigration to Brazil reached 33,866.

The data shows that Brazil's attraction to immigrants is gradually increasing. For Cuban and Venezuelan immigrants, working in Brazil is a very good way out. In addition, due to recent changes in Brazilian immigration legislation, immigrants can legally stay in Brazil by applying for a residence permit in Brazil for humanitarian reasons.

For Venezuelans, they can apply for residence permit in Brazil through Decree No.9/2018, and Cubans can also apply for residence permit from the Brazilian Ministry of Justice according to Decree No.4/2018.

The situation of Cuban and Venezuelan immigrants is different from that of Haitian refugees. Since the earthquake destroyed the homes of Haitians, the Brazilian government gave them priority in refugee reception and provided humanitarian visas to Haitian refugees at the Brazilian Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Therefore, there are not as many immigrants in Haiti as in Cuba and Venezuela.
