Lanxi Expressway starts from Lanzhou in the east and reaches Xining in the west. The starting point is located in Zhonghe Township, northern Lanzhou City, and the end point is located in Chaoyang Street, Chengbei District, Xining City. It is an integral part of the Beijing-Tibet Expressway, the main road leading to Qinghai and Tibet in the mainland, and a fast-track connecting Lanzhou and Xining, two provincial capital cities. Lanxi Expressway adopts the standard construction of four-lane expressway with full intercommunication, full closure and controlled access, and is equipped with perfect traffic safety facilities and service facilities. The section from Machangyuan to Xining in Qinghai is118.65km, with a total investment of 4.375 billion yuan. Construction started in February 2000, and it was divided into two sections: Ping 'an to Xining and Machangyuan to Ping 'an. It was completed and opened to traffic in June 2003. The total length 10 1.94 km from zhonghe to haishiwan in Lanzhou, Gansu, with an estimated investment of 3.864 billion yuan. It plays an important role in Qinghai highway network.
