How did javaeye become iteye?
According to the announcement on JavaEye website, due to the unacceptable harsh conditions imposed on JavaEye website by Oracle Bone Inscriptions Company through its authorized law firm, after long-term efforts and fruitless negotiations, the law firm authorized by Oracle Bone Inscriptions demanded us to obey in a tough stance and threatened to stop using javaeye.com's domain name. Therefore, we were forced to give up the domain name and JavaEye brand of JavaEye, which has been in business for seven years, and change its name to ItEye.
The follow is that official report of the incident:
From165438+1October 26th 20 10:
165438+1October 26th, we received a lawyer's letter from Li Ande Law Firm authorized by Oracle Bone Inscriptions (please refer to the attachment for the lawyer's letter), saying that we used javaeye.com's domain name without Oracle Bone Inscriptions's authorization and were suspected of misleading the JAVA trademark, and asked us the following questions:
Oracle Bone Inscriptions wrote:
1. Do not use the "JavaEye" logo on the homepage of javaeye.com website, and use other names, such as "Eyeon Java";
2. Add a statement in the eye-catching position of javaeye.com website, indicating that the website has nothing to do with Oracle Bone Inscriptions USA Limited.
Departments, such as "[eye on JAVA]- unofficial community website about JAVA on Java", or "[eye on JAVA]- independent community website about Java on Java";
These two conditions are very strange:
1, a JavaEye brand that has been in business for 7 years, cannot have the word JavaEye on its website. What do the users and customers of our company think? What do I feel sorry for? And it is particularly strange that there is no essential difference between javaeye and eyeonjava. If javaeye is suspected of misleading, why isn't eyeonjava suspected of misleading? If I change it to eyeonjava according to your request today, and you accuse me of misleading tomorrow, should I change it every day?
2. As we all know, JavaEye is not a pure Java community now, but a comprehensive technical website. Let's hang a slogan "Unofficial Community about Java" on the homepage, which makes the non-Java programmers on our website feel embarrassed. Isn't it obvious to drive away all programmers who don't do java?
In a word, we feel that Oracle Bone Inscriptions's request is unreasonable, which is extremely harmful to the development of JavaEye website, and we simply can't accept such conditions. To this end, our two sides launched a long-term tug-of-war and negotiation. After many times of seesaw, we finally explicitly rejected Oracle Bone Inscriptions's offer. We believe that:

JAVA(TM) is a registered trademark, but JAVA is a common English word. We use java, not JAVA(TM), so it should not constitute an infringement fact. Using our domain name in javaeye.com will not cause unnecessary misunderstanding to the public. In particular, our website does not use any logo or icon related to the JAVA(TM) trademark of Oracle or SUN Company, so there is no infringement.
Oracle Bone Inscriptions issued an ultimatum on March 29th, 20 1 1:

The domain name "javaeye.com" that you registered to use completely contains the registered trademark of "JAVA" of Oracle Bone Inscriptions American Co., Ltd., with similar composition. The website has commercial advertisements, which meets the legal requirements of domain name disputes and computer network domain name infringement. Therefore, from a legal point of view, whether through domain name disputes or court proceedings, Oracle Bone Inscriptions USA Limited can ask you to stop using the domain name.
To this end, we have to consider changing the domain name and logo of the website. In fact, ItEye is a domain name that we acquired a long time ago. However, considering that JavaEye, as a community, has been in operation for 7 years and has a high reputation and brand loyalty, changing the domain name will cause the interruption of brand continuity, and will also have a huge impact on website SEO, and will also cause a lot of inconvenience to website users, especially bloggers. So we don't tend to change domain names and brands easily.
However, as we all know, Oracle Bone Inscriptions has always been the deadly enemy of the open source community, and the open source community is deserted wherever it goes: after Oracle Bone Inscriptions acquired BEA, it suddenly closed the dev2dev community that BEA had operated for many years; After Oracle acquired SUN, several open source projects and communities of SUN were closed in succession, and Netbeans project was dying. There are also many contradictions between Oracle and Apache Foundation, the largest open source organization. Apache Foundation almost announced its withdrawal from JCP. Especially for JAVA-related companies, Oracle Bone Inscriptions even killed Google and attacked Google with the law. Finally, even james gosling, the "father of JAVA", left Oracle Bone Inscriptions for Google. So, who can guarantee that you won't continue to take the JAVA trademark and drive JavaEye website to the wall in the future?
Therefore, we must make up our minds to change the domain name, then play drums, endure the pain for a while, and completely solve the legal threat of domain name infringement. We know that after changing the domain name, the SEO ranking of ItEye's new website will start from zero, and some website users will be lost, which is a heavy blow to the website, but we have to make this decision in exchange for the survival right of the website. We believe that after changing the domain name of ItEye, through the joint efforts of our team and the joint promotion of the new ItEye website in product innovation, code rewriting, content operation and construction, our new ItEye website will quickly get out of the trough and surpass the original JavaEye website. For us, April Fool's Day is not a bad holiday, but a memorable beginning. This dramatic April Fool's Day will witness ItEye's progress from zero to glory.
Finally, we kindly remind those websites that may encounter the same experience as us, and try to avoid using the trademarks of any company that Oracle Bone Inscriptions may acquire in the future with their own sad experiences, so as to avoid being attacked by Oracle Bone Inscriptions's legal weapons in the future.
