The pace of greening and lighting construction has accelerated. The new green area throughout the year was 1.2 million square meters, and the new public green space was 300,000 square meters. A number of iconic green space projects such as Suanshan Park, Party School Recreation Garden, Riverside Tourism Scenic Belt, Jingkou Road, Songcun Road, Guangming River, and Dagang River Scenic Belt have been newly built. The urban industrial wastewater treatment rate is 100%, and the solid waste comprehensive utilization rate is 85%, of which: the hazardous waste disposal rate is 100%.

Population has been effectively controlled. In 2004, the city's total registered population was 2.6721 million, including 1.3506 million male population and 1.3215 million female population.
