Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, referred to as Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, is located in xi, the capital of Shaanxi Province. It is the only multi-disciplinary university with light industry characteristics in western China. Established by China National Light Industry Federation, China Light Industry Group Corporation and Shaanxi Provincial Government. It is a national-level "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in the Midwest".

The school is the first light industry institution of higher learning in People's Republic of China (PRC). Founded in 1958, it was named Beijing Institute of Light Industry. It is the first light industry institution of higher learning in New China. 1970 moved to Xianyang, Shaanxi, and changed its name to Northwest Institute of Light Industry. 1978 was identified by the State Council as one of the 88 key universities in China.

1998 The school was placed in Shaanxi Province, and the system of joint construction by the central and local governments and local management was implemented.
