Since 2003, 35 fresh graduates from Wenzhou University have responded to the "College Students' Volunteer Service Plan for the West" proposed by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Ministry of Education to go to Sichuan Province. They left their own figures and footprints on the vast land of Sichuan in order to let more local children receive the education they deserve.

Many people who serve the west have given up their jobs.

In 2003, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Personnel issued a call for "going to the west, where the motherland and people need you most". Since then, outstanding fresh graduates have been selected from universities every year to make contributions to the places where they are most needed in the west.

On July 19 this year, Wen 12 college students set off from Hangzhou and went to Chengdu, Sichuan with volunteers from all over the province. After receiving short-term training at Sichuan Normal University, they came to their respective posts and began to serve for one to two years. Since 2003, 23 volunteers from Wenzhou University have come to Sichuan Province to provide services. Now, some of them are due back, and some are still working.

On July1May-August 5, Wenzhou University's visiting practice team also came to Sichuan to get in touch with volunteers in the west. There, members of the practice team felt the hardships of volunteer life, the enthusiasm for work and the support of local people. Lin Qin, who teaches at fuxing town Primary School in Jintang County, Sichuan Province, still has one year's service time. She told reporters that a year ago, she learned through TV that the teachers in the west were weak. "Compared with western children, we are much superior in family conditions and daily life. I hope I can help the children there as much as possible in teaching and life and teach them as much knowledge as possible. This is why I went to the west. " Lin Qin said.

Xie graduated from the College of Applied Technology of Wenzhou University last year, majoring in light industry, chemical industry and trade. Now she is a math teacher in Zhenjiang Township, Songpan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Last May, Xie, who was still studying at Wenzhou University, got a job in a chemical company in Wenzhou. At that time, the school mobilized graduates to volunteer in the west. After careful consideration, I resigned and went to work and signed up for this school. The reason for his resignation is: "I have never left Wenzhou since I was a child, and I really want to go out and see the world. I believe that I will feel different when I go to the west! "

They have paid a lot for teaching and educating people.

These days, it's raining in Songpan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, just like late autumn. Because the roof leaked rain, Xie put three washbasins in three corners of the room to catch the rain. Songpan county is 2800 meters above sea level. Because spring and autumn are connected, winter is long and summer is short, so the school summer vacation here is only 1 month, and the winter vacation is 2 months. "It will be windy in a month or two, so we have to stay in our room and dare not go out. June 1 1 will be very cold, and even the water in the water pipe will freeze! " Jiang Tao said.

A year ago, when Xie first came to Songpan County, he felt that he had come to another world. For Xie, everything is new! "However, living and working here for a long time is not a simple matter."

"Traffic basically depends on walking, safety basically depends on dogs, communication basically depends on fighting, and getting rich basically depends on pigs." Li Xinle described the general situation of Muchuan County, Leshan City, Sichuan Province, where he worked. In order to support poor students and facilitate communication with local villagers, Li Xinle often eats and lives in the farmer's house in the walled new village of Muxi Town, the county seat. At first, Xinle couldn't find the toilet. It turns out that most of the toilets here are shared by people and animals, and the toilets are in the pigsty. The pigsty is dark and damp, and mosquitoes fly around. What is even more unbearable is that as soon as you squat down, all the pigs will stand up and lie there staring at you. In order to make the villagers aware of the harm of zoonotic toilets, he searched and printed many examples of zoonotic toilets on the Internet, explained and publicized them to the villagers, and finally solved the local problem of "difficulty in going to the toilet".

Although the place is poor, the local people are generous, which is the deepest impression left by the students of Nantian Middle School in Leibo County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province to volunteer Zhou Zongsheng. "At noon, many students eat potatoes mixed with peppers. Because there is no money to buy exercise books, students hand in their homework one by one, and sometimes their homework is written on some small pieces of paper. " Zhou Zongsheng said. Many students are forced to drop out of school and go out to work. The local education department found that some of them had not completed the nine-year compulsory education and pulled them back to the classroom. Among the first-year students in Dai Sheng, the oldest is 17, which is higher than him.

"Some students scored 2 points and said that the goal is to complete nine-year compulsory education. A diploma means nothing to him. Parents also hope that they can find something to do as soon as possible, so that there is more labor at home. " Zhou Zongsheng said that he was often angry and cried by these students. Many teachers told Zhou Zongsheng that some students are in a bad situation, so just deal with them casually and don't take them seriously. However, Zhou Zongsheng felt that since he joined the ranks, he should shoulder the responsibility of education. In addition to instilling correct learning concepts in students at ordinary times, he also makes up lessons for students free of charge every weekend. Through his efforts, the grades of the students in the class have been greatly improved.

Build bridges and let children receive more education.

Paying attention to poor students and left-behind children is something that every volunteer is happy to do when serving in Sichuan. Many volunteers have built a bridge of communication between the two places, so that more western children can get systematic education.

In May this year, Lin Xian, a volunteer from Mouli Middle School in Qionglai City, launched a fund-raising activity at Wenzhou University, and raised 5,000 yuan in cash in just a few days to help seven poor students in Mouli Middle School. The day after the visiting team of Wenzhou University came to Mouli Middle School, before dawn, seven sponsored children and their parents rushed to Mouli Middle School to thank Wen University. A girl specially folded a paper crane of 1 0,000 for the team members to express her gratitude.

In July this year, of the 7 volunteers of the Student Aid Association/KLOC-0, 6 have completed their service period. In order to continue to raise funds to help poor local students complete their studies, Xie extended his service period from one year to two years. Now, Jiang Tao still has a wish, that is, to use the remaining volunteers to build a Hope Primary School in Songpan County, so that more children can receive education.

Zheng, who teaches at Lin Bao Middle School in Qionglai City, said that volunteers are very popular in the local area, and many people hope that volunteers can stay. Most volunteers at Wenda University also said that they are respected by people in Sichuan and often receive corn, potatoes and eggs from students and parents. In order to thank the teachers, many students also took the initiative to help volunteers with laundry, cooking and cleaning.

New problems faced by volunteers who have difficulty finding jobs.

Cai Lianqun, secretary of the Youth League Committee of Wenzhou University, told reporters that in February this year, Wenzhou University was awarded the first batch of advanced units in China's western planning. Since the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Ministry of Education put forward the "Volunteer Service Plan for College Students in the West" in 2003, 35 college graduates from Wenzhou University have successively gone to Sichuan Province (Zhejiang Province). These graduates are excellent students with good health and excellent grades, and have a strong desire to go to Sichuan. They have made extraordinary achievements in the west.

Generally speaking, the service period of volunteers is one or two years, coming to the west is summer, and returning to Wenzhou every year is summer. "This means that we missed the best job opportunities. Every summer vacation, most job fairs have ended, and the recruitment plans of enterprises and institutions have come to an end. Finding a job has become our biggest headache. " A volunteer said. It is understood that among more than a dozen volunteers who have completed their services in the west this year, except for three who have basically confirmed their jobs, the jobs of other volunteers are still uncertain.

A volunteer said frankly: "I chose to serve in the west because I heard that there would be some preferential policies when I came back to find a job." Now the employment situation is getting more and more tense. I don't know if I can enjoy these preferential policies. " Facing the reality, these students are more likely to have a psychological gap. Without adequate mental preparation and correct mentality, enthusiasm is not enough!

Cai Lianqun believes that college student volunteers should adjust their mentality, regard four years of college as learning classroom knowledge, and work in Sichuan as learning practical experience. Taking part in the service with this exercise mentality is of great benefit to volunteers to overcome temporary difficulties.
