The School of Foreign Languages ??of Zhejiang University was formerly the Foreign Languages ??Department of the College of Arts and Sciences of Zhejiang University established in 1928. In 1999, the former Department of Foreign Languages ??of Zhejiang University, the former School of Foreign Languages ??of Hangzhou University, the former Department of Foreign Languages ??of Hangzhou University, the former Department of Public Affairs of Zhejiang Agricultural University, and the former Department of Foreign Languages ??Teaching of Zhejiang Medical University merged to form the School of Foreign Languages ??of Zhejiang University.

In 2003, the college was renamed as the School of Foreign Languages, Culture and International Exchange of Zhejiang University. In May 2022, the college will resume its name as Zhejiang University School of Foreign Languages.

The college consists of the Institute of English Literature, the Institute of Linguistics, the Institute of Discourse and Multiculturalism, the Institute of Applied Linguistics, the Institute of Translation Studies, the Institute of Intercultural Communication, the Institute of Foreign Language Teaching, and the Institute of Foreign Languages. There are 12 department-level research institutes including the Institute of Teaching and Media, the Institute of German Studies, the Institute of Japanese Language and Culture, the Institute of French-speaking Humanities, and the Institute of Russian Language and Culture;
